Sometimes in life, even your most positive expectations and hopes for a dream holiday are surpassed by the reality and Cinnamon Velifushi is a case in point!
Being a ‘first timer’ to the Maldives, we were pretty confident that our experience would be nothing but dreamy (think clear azure waters, abundant healthy sea life, soft white powdery sand, accommodation to die for), but to actually arrive and be left utterly speechless is pretty much a first!
Cinnamon Velifushi is without doubt a truly, truly special place. Not only does it tick all the aforementioned boxes of what a paradise island should be, it has a unique serenity and charm that will be hard to match. Moreover, the staff here go way beyond their call of duty to leave an indelible mark on your consciousness meaning a return visit is almost inevitable - and we are not the types to want to do this, so keen are we on that sense of discovery.
Special mention has to go to the resorts Head Chef, Chau, and her unbelievable team who ensured our party of mixed dietary needs were always catered for with such an incredible variety of gluten-free and vegan delights. The restaurant, and yes there is only one, is a joyous occasion for whichever meal you are there for, as it sits almost open air in style and juts out to the waters edge, allowing wraparound views of the glorious ocean and it’s stunning inhabitants. Daily we were visited by Black Tip’s, rays and a huge variety of fish. Another special mention to Afsal, who warmly greeted us each and everyday with great humour and local insight.
On the opposite side of the island is the main bar, adjacent to the pool, and a wonderful space to do as much or as little as you choose and where the views delight regardless of day, night, sunshine, cloud or rain. And another special mention to Bahsan, who not only kept us topped up with all that the bar could create, but did so with such energy, humour and kinship.
The accommodations, whether beach based or ‘over the water’ are of superior quality and importantly the beds and linens ensured a great nights sleep.
Lastly, it wouldn’t be a trip to the Maldives without exploring the underwater life and after 4 wonderful dives, including a first night dive, a last speacial mention to Samir and his team for leading us safely to some of the best dive spots I have had the pleasure to see - one reason to return here alone would be to enjoy Samir’s company again in such a remarkable place!
Suffice to say, this place is the stuff of dreams and we sincerely hope to return. @cinnamonvelifushi - We miss you all and send all our love x
