Paradise on earth
Pros: Is there anything I can write in this review that other guests didn’t write already here on booking? From the very first moment they welcome you on the airport to the moment you leave this paradise on the earth, everything was just p-e-r-f-e-c-t! Top notch personnel where everyone is trying to pamper you and fulfill all the wishes. Buddy - you are the king! Great food for breakfast - even better for lunch and dinner (special recommendation for Japanese restaurant). Overwater villas are located directly over the reef with incredible marine life underneath (snorkeling felt like Windows screen saver :). On the scale from 1 to 10 I give them 11! Guys thanks for everything.

Memorable Vacation
Pros: There were a number of things that we especially liked: 1. Attention to detail - prior to our arrival, we received a detailed preference questionnaire, which massively aided in customizing our stay to our needs. We were traveling with an infant, and accordingly we had extensive equipment and dietary requirements. The room was fully equipped with all essential equipment (baby monitor, sterilizer, bottle warmer, changing table, bathing tub, etc.) and it truly felt that we never left home. Moreover, our Khateeb (i.e., personal assistant), Mariam, went out of her way to ensure that our requirements (especially out baby's dietary requirements) were met throughout our stay. 2. Dining experience - we were worried about the cuisine variety and food quality prior to our stay. We were on a half-board meal plan, and were massively pleased with our choice. The breakfast was a mixture of buffet and a la carte, which was diverse, delicious, and satisfying. For dinner, the resort rotates which restaurants are open each given night, which allowed us to try all the cuisines on offer. The food at all the restaurants was amazing, however we especially loved Feeling Koi (we ended up dining there twice during our stay). The half board plan allowed us to select practically any item from the menus (a nominal charge was imposed on certain premium dishes). 3. Room - we stayed at the Reef Villa, and we were not disappointed with our selection. The villa is directly situated over the island's reef, which allowed us to snorkel at our convenience. Our snorkeling experience was always enjoyable, but our highlight was spotting black tip sharks on a number of occasions. We were even lucky to spot them a couple of times while out of water.
Cons: We thought that all services offered by the resort were adequately priced. However, the pricing of the photography services was ridiculous (even for a premium resort). All guests are offered a complimentary 30-minute photoshoot, after which they can receive one free printed picture. The charge for 5 and 10 digital copies is $200, and $300, respectively. Unfortunately, as our photoshoot was one day before our departure, we did not have a chance to select the free printed picture. Instead we were promised a complimentary digital picture, which we are yet to receive as at the date of writing. The resort noted that the photography services are outsourced to a 3rd party, accordingly they have no control over pricing. We find it hard that the resort has no influence on a 3rd party that it has specifically selected. We thought that the entire matter reflected very poorly on the resort, especially when considering how well they handled everything else during our stay The seaplane transfer was pretty convenient for the most part. However, if you are traveling with infants, this experience could be tiring due to the following: 1. It gets pretty loud inside the cabin, so young travelers will have to wear earmuffs (we brought our own with us, but the operator also provided us with a very good set). It was difficult keeping the earmuffs on our baby for the duration of the trip. 2. While the plane is stationary, it got pretty hot inside the cabin. While it is tolerable for adults, it got a bit uncomfortable for our baby. 3. Our inbound and outbound flights made stops along the way, which exacerbated the issues mentioned above. If you traveling without any infants all the issues mentioned above are tolerable.

best hotel in Maldives
Pros: This hotel is truly amazing and beyond. All exeeded our expectation. From the arrival to the end we are speechless. We stayed 7 nights in lagoon water villa, meal plan dine all around .I recommend highly this mean plan because you can dine in all restaurants in the resorts, and to chose from a la carte menu and you can select wide choice of food, all type of alcohol and beverages without additional payment. We arrived in the airport of Male at 7 am in the morning and somebody from Amilla was waiting for us and we were invited in Amilla lounge. The lounge was super luxury and clean, with shower, snacks, tea and breakfast and many more.We stayed there around 2 hours and than took the sea plane to the island.Everything with the transfer was super well organized. We arrived in the resort around 10 am and our buttler show us our bungalow.Everything was ready and they gave us the room imediatelly. Our checking was done in advance.Their organisation was the best. Our vacantion started imediatelly we reach our bungalow. We stayed in water villa 306.It was amazing, spacious, clean, luxury, comfortable, nothing is enough to describe the villa.Super big and comfy bed, outdoor shower, outdoor pool-good size, living room, menu for pillows are only part of the details. Our mini bar was refilled daily and all included in the price. With this package dine around, you can order once per day room service in the room. The staff was super super super kind.I never see in Maldives so kind staff, plus all speaking excelent english, all of them reacted super fast to all our requests,we are super happy from our stay. The food was also excelent, they offer gluten free, vegan, meat, fish, dairy free, everything.Just super wide selection of food, lots of healty options, but in the same time they have pasta, pizza, burgers. The breakfast was excelent, champagne, fresh juces, pancakes, tea,a la carte menu, musli, cooked food, mama mia, everyting you can imagine. We were pampered like babies.

Pros: There was nothing the staff could not do to make sure we had a wonderful time. From the restaurant staff, to our butler, the spa staff, the housekeeping and front of house; they were all marvellous. The resort was beautiful. It’s natural beauty on full display. It was a slick operation but felt totally relaxed. It truly felt like “our” island home! We have stayed in some top notch places but the experience of Amilla beats them all. The perfect holiday.
Cons: We would have loved to have had a printed copy of the island map with all the details about snorkelling & tides etc in our room.

Absolutely Amilla
Pros: Beautiful island, lots of nature. We stayed in a sunset villa for 2 weeks. Comfortable room and bed. All electrical sockets are catered for, so you don’t need to bring travel plugs. Good air con. stacked mini bar. Staff try their best to accommodate all customers needs. Good choice of restaurants, ‘Feeling Koi’ is fantastic. Excellent choice at breakfast, enough to cater to all tastes and preferences. The hotel throw theme nights and arrange buffets and cocktail evenings to make evenings interesting. Good spacious room, good size bathroom. House keeping do a very good job. Although separate to the hotel, the dive center deserves a mention, as the staff are amazing. Sappe our instructor is the best, Natsumi are Silvio are also great. Two tennis courts, Marcus is a great coach. Gym and spa are also fantastic. We were also impressed with our arrival at Malé airport, the lounge and transfer to and from Malé to Amilla Fushi island. Simply fantastic.
Cons: It has to be said that we were unfortunate to suffer 3 leaks during a heavy downpour on one particular day. I don’t want to criticise too much, but it does beg the question regarding the overall maintenance of the villas. It was reported immediately and dealt with promptly once the rain subsided, however it was a bit chaotic. The management only felt it appropriate to call me on the phone rather than visiting face to face. We were offered a room exchange for one night, but felt this was too much upheaval. Debris continued to blow from the roof onto the terrace and in the pool over the course of the next few days. We had to ask to have this cleaned. This happened during the second day of our 2 week stay, so we didn’t get off to the best start. Also pay careful attention when walking on the wooden terrace due to splinters. This should be sanded and some consideration should be taken to install wheels on the loungers on the terrace. I have to say that these were the only negative points and we would consider returning in future. The rest of our stay was fabulous.

Our stay was excellence in paradise at it’s best. ||The pool villa was spacious, private and equipped top-notch. The team catered to all our needs and we felt the service was very personal and from the heart. We felt like our wishes were fulfilled before we even had to asked for it - special thanks to our Katheeb.||The island itself has a lot of natural greenery and can be discovered by bicycle or buggy service. It felt very private and helped us to relax so quickly. The massages by the spa team were performed very professionally by focusing on the preferences we discussed before.||Also we would like to particularly highlight the culinary experience starting from the wide breakfast selection with numerous healthy options also for vegans and vegetarians to the evening dinner offers which holds various menus available for any preference. ||For a lunch snack we also tried the pizzas as there is a dedicated hut with stone oven for it - compliments to the pizza chef to create this delicious snack on an island in the Indian Ocean. ||On our tour around the island we discovered a little garden where fresh products are grown. In the room amenities were presented beautifully with recycled plastic packagings - congratulations to these sustainability initiatives.||To wrap up: Thank you to everyone from Amilla for such a wonderful service with so many individual touches at a stunning high class island environment. We loved every moment at the island!

We had the best time at Amilla for our honeymoon in October 2023.||Everyone was so hospitable and made us feel so welcome and at home. Nothing was ever too much trouble. Special mentions to our Khateeb Samail (known as Sam) who took such good care of us, Narelle the General Manager, Geoff the Director of Food and Beverages, Nafha the Maldivian chef, Ayya our awesome waiter, Mauman our housekeeper - honestly though, literally everyone we met working front of house and back of house were so genuinely wonderful.||*Villa - We stayed in the Sunset Overwater Villa - super spacious, clean, comfortable and awesome, we loved loved loved it. It included a comfortable king sized bed facing the water and two outdoor showers in addition to the indoor one and a bathtub if you fancy a soak. Our villa was serviced twice a day and there were yummy turndown treats each night when we returned to our villa for the night.||*Food - one of us is coeliac and it was food heaven being at Amilla (we definitely expanded our waistline while we were there). There was so much choice in every restaurant and all the chefs took so much care with ensuring there was delicious gluten free food with no cross contamination - we were so appreciative. They did say if there was something on the menu we wanted, we could ask them to make it for us. Nothing ever was too much trouble for them.||*Activities - While you could just spend your time lounging around the resort or in your villa, if you want something to do, you would definitely not be bored as there was so much on the calendar to do - yoga, DJ class, cooking class, art class, snorkelling to name a few.||One of the highlights was swimming with Manta Rays at Hanifaru Bay - such an amazing and once in a lifetime experience.||A special thanks to the Amilla team for going above and beyond for us. We wanted to visit a nearby resort to dine at their underwater restaurant and they made it happen for us with organising a transfer.||It was so good, it made it hard to leave. We are still talking about our time at Amilla to this day. We look forward to returning (hopefully soon)!|Thank you again for making our honeymoon such a memorable one!||Michelle & Nathanael

Apologies for the delayed review, but I couldn't let nearly a year pass without expressing how truly memorable our stay at Amilla resort was. It EXCEEDED all expectations and stands out as a GENUINE 5-star experience across the board. This being our third visit to the Maldives, we can confidently say it's unparalleled.||||Beyond the kindness and impeccable service of the staff, we were particularly impressed by the dining options. The restaurants offered the best culinary experience we've had in the Maldives, featuring extraordinary venues and top-notch table service. Despite the resort being fully booked, the island's spacious layout creates an illusion of seclusion.||||Amidst a plethora of activities, we couldn't possibly indulge in everything we wanted, even after a week-long stay. Our Sunset Water Pool Villa was exquisite, and the housekeeping service (twice daily) maintained a consistently high standard. The provided bicycles proved both fun and essential for navigating the expansive and lush island.||||As avid snorkelers, we can attest that the house reef is one of the best in the Maldives. Our experience was so enriching that we embarked on an extraordinary adventure, obtaining our Open Water PADI certification. Sappe, our extraordinary instructor made our daily trips both fun, safe and memorable that we decided to take the Advanced Open Water PADI courses and it was the best decision ever. The diving was a standout highlight of our trip. We will always dearly remember Sappe (Shafiq) by his patience, knowledge and kindness. Be sure to include a visit to the blue hole! ||||We were fortunate enough to see the beach lit up by bioluminescent plankton. It was a magical spectacle at night even if it was the end of the season and very few were left!||||Last but certainly not least, a special shoutout to Vicky, who was always attentive, making our stay truly memorable. Excellent from start to finish. We had a room with a sunset view which was absolutely beautiful. Rooms on the sea have a private plunge pool with a ladder down to the sea. ||We did several excursions, the local island visit with visits to Kendhoo and another island with an Amilla guide to walk us around which was really nice to see the non resort islands||We did the house reef snorkelling which was my first time snorkelling and I had no idea how much we would see, it’s pretty spectacular down there and we saw all manner of wildlife, we also were able to keep hold of our snorkelling gear and do some more snorkelling on our own which was also excellent||Turtle discovery was the highlight for us, we saw approximately ten turtles, both Green and Hawksbill which was beautiful to see||Dolphin discovery was also great we found a pod of also probably 10 or so dolphins including a baby||Sunrise fishing was a very early start but very much worth it, really good experience with a great team of people||The restaurants on the resort are all great, our favourites were Feeling Koi and Barolo. The DAI package means that almost all food is inclusive and plenty of drink also included so worth opting for this||Our Khateeb Nappe was excellent and very attentive, he checked in with us a couple of times a day and made sure all our needs were met. Special thanks to him and also to Mauman our housekeeper who did a great job of keeping the place tidy whilst also adding some artistic and creative flair over our stay. Mauman and Nappe also went out of their way to arrange a floral bubble bath for my wife when they found out she is pregnant. Something they did not need to do but we are incredibly grateful to them for doing||The resort is an incredible place and Nappe and Mauman really made our trip special, i hope we will be back in the future.||Thank you Amilla for an amazing holiday, Dave & Juliet

It was a fantastic experience. We had such a great time at the resort. The service and hospitality were outstanding. I give special appreciation to Hajar for being with us and helping us plan every moment at the hotel. She even planned an anniversary surprise, which was so special. We stayed here for a week over New Year’s.The resort was beautifully decorated with lights but all where already gone at 3rd of January..We came from Huvafen where the service (all employees seemed happy)and quality of food where superior to Amilla’s.(most employees at the restaurants seemed tired and not so happy especially at breakfast =our personal impression)Our 2br beachvilla was lacking any decorations.Stark white walls and no artwork/decoration at all(1 🪴to be honest and a little xmas tree made of colored feathers, which was nice.)I did not like the beige carpet under the beds. From a hygienic point of vue.|The best room of the villa was the bathroom. Also the furniture outside and inside was not very comfortable.Especially the dining “chairs” .|Service was not on par with the previous 5 star resorts we had visited over the past few years. For dinner you had to book a table and many times we came and there was no table set for us (4)Even for our last dinner[ which was also my birthday ]no mention of our departure,no birthday wishes . Nothing. They knew because at breakfast a nice lady congratulated me and our cheerful room attendant Sahadat made me some bday decorations.|Even our Khateeb/villahost did not mention it.The GM not once came at our table at some time of the week.Feeling Koi our least favorite because it lacks ambiance.Such a pity because it is the only overwater outlet .Vakkaru,Nautilus,Soneva Fushi ,Kihavah ,FS Giravaaru and Huvafen the service is (much)better than at Amilla. We will not return.

I got so much helpful information from the reviews here and in the forums that I am very happy to share our views of Amilla and our wonderful holiday.||We organised a two island, 10 day break flying direct with Virgin. Amilla was our second stop and we had an easy speedboat transfer to a warm welcome from the lovely Amilla team. We could see Amilla from our previous island and I did wonder if I had made the right choice! A glorious green island with this long brilliant and a bit brutal white extension of modern OWB. But I need not have worried. Amilla combines a wonderful well-established glorious green island with beautiful modern, spacious villas. ||We had a wonderful beach villa with pool and uninterrupted views to the ocean. Choices of places to sit, lounge or eat in the sun or shade at any time of day. A dreamy, comfortable and enormous bed and fantastic bathroom with choice of outside showers. A separate lounge area with bar, fridge and ability to make drinks.|We were on the Dine Around AI package which made life very easy. Breakfasts were fantastic – so many choices and fabulous food. There was a choice of places for lunch – or indeed you could have in villa service. A range of choices from Asian to western. We ate in all the restaurants and enjoyed the Maldivian and Mediterranean dining evenings. Lots of choice and lots of help with unfamiliar dishes especially from the lovely Naf who shared her enthusiasm for all things Maldivian.||The dive school was one of the best we have found worldwide; professional, safe, friendly and determined everyone should have a great time. Thanks to Silvio and all the team.||We loved the spa treatments and exploring the island with orchid and kitchen gardens.||Most importantly it was people who made this place really special. We were made to feel so welcome and special whether in our villa with the team led by Sahadat (and his beautiful doorstep art) or eating and drinking in the restaurants and bars. And then Samir whose job it was to look after us was great – including showing huge patience in helping us stay an extra two days as we did not want to go home.

During our recent stay at this resort, we found ourselves immersed in the wild beauty of the island, a tranquil setting that appeals to those seeking a quieter escape. However, it's important to note a few aspects that tempered our overall experience.| |The natural surroundings of the island, while wild and enchanting, revealed some areas of the village left unkempt. This may be inconsequential to some, but for those who value a well-maintained environment, it's worth considering.| |The Feeling Koi restaurant and the pizza were very good. However, one inconvenience was the impossibility to have cold water during meals, a detail that may not suit everyone's preference.| |A notable drawback is the high pricing of excursions and activities on the island. The costs felt somewhat disproportionate to the overall expense of the stay.| |On a positive note, we extend our thanks to Rahat, a staff member who stood out for his kindness and attentiveness throughout our stay. His efforts in maintaining the cleanliness of our room were appreciated and contributed to a comfortable stay.| |The rooms, while generally comfortable, have a slightly dated feel. Despite this, they were adequately maintained, offering a peaceful retreat.| |A nice feature of the resort is the option to explore the island by bike, providing a quiet and eco-friendly means of transportation.| |In summary, this resort provides a serene escape into nature, with some considerations to keep in mind. The tranquil atmosphere make it a suitable choice for those seeking a quieter retreat. However, improvements in certain areas could enhance the overall experience.

We thought the whole week was magical, the staff were really attentive, our katheeb Buddy was just the right balance of supportive without being intrusive. The reef villa was huge and comfortable, and the access to the reef was unbelievable. We spent way more time in the water snorkelling than we thought we would, sometimes getting in three snorkelling sessions in a day from various points around the island. (Our first time at Amilla, and our first time in the Maldives - so take this from a Maldives newbie perspective, but from someone with a decent amount of high-end accommodation in Asia and elsewhere.) GENERAL VIBE Jungly, not too built-up. Laidback. Not bling. Lazy bike rides everywhere. Bats flying through the trees. Largely felt uninhabited except at mealtimes. Elegantly classy without being stuffy. Maybe slightly disjointed in terms of guest interactions, but maybe that's just the Maldives for you. THE STAFF Overall a great experience. Bearing in mind that I don't think we asked as much of our Katheeb Buddy as much as other guests might do, he was very responsive when we did need him and very chilled out and friendly. He proactively booked stuff for us, and gave us guidance on snorkelling spots - even took us out snorkelling with him on the last day. He was unobtrusive, not obsequious but available when required and interested in our happiness and welfare. THE SNORKELLING The reef was great. We had great visibility on the northwest side of the island. Saw reef sharks, nurse sharks, eagle rays, green and hawksbill turtles, morays, and lots of "fish soup" schools. Lots of parrotfish and the odd titan triggerfish. We loved it so much and being able to just nip in for a quick half hour from the back deck of the villa was sensationally good. We loved our expeditions too - the Blue Hole trip showed us that actually we could snorkel over to it from our villa, which we did repeatedly, and the one that went out on the boat to the islands and reefs south of us was great too. The coral and fish life on the submerged atoll to the south was outstanding.

Amazing week at Amilla. We have just returned from a wonderful family holiday at Amilla. It was our first time in the Maldives and we couldn’t have chosen a more perfect place. The island itself is beautiful, natural, spread out and surrounded by an amazing house reef. The team who run and work at Amilla are all fabulous. Everyone we spent time with was dedicated, genuine and proud to be there. It came across in every experience we had there. We chose a reef water villa and it was huge and brilliantly laid out. We loved climbing straight into the ocean for a snorkel or relaxing on our pool deck. We cycled around the island and absolutely loved visiting the hidden beach spots, jungle trails and viewing the sea life from the jetty. The food and drink were varied and outstanding throughout and the theme nights were a highlight. Feeling Koi is a must visit for high end sushi and Japanese food but we equally enjoyed the fish n chips served on Saturday evenings for a more casual experience. The choice of wine was excellent and much of it was included in our dine around package and we also enjoyed the interesting cocktails and mock tails created by the bar team. There was a varied and great range of activities that we took part in including a DJ class, kombucha making, massages in the spa and there was always something to do but also the ability to do nothing and just chill on the beautiful beach. The most memorable moments will be the guided snorkelling in the blue hole or house reef where we were lucky enough to swim with giant turtles and reef sharks There is so much more to say but you can not be anything but delighted at Amilla

I had the chance to Explore for 5 nights this luxury private island resorts, nestled in the pristine beauty of Baa Atoll UNESCO Biosphere Reserve. Most of the island remains a naturally lush island paradise, with only 67 villas on this big island This is one thing that make Amilla special. Other is that here you can choose not only beach villa and water villa but as well treetop villa, an interesting place to leave with pool at the level of the top palms. But for me the services make the difference. The people deserve a 10+ and the small details as organic food, a lot of ingredients that are grown on the island original recipes for detox kombucha and event Nutella, the organic coffee in the rooms and much more. Not last the Spa that is settled in the jungle with all the services that you can wish to have with homemade ingredients and with a fantastic team. I stay in one bedroom beach villa and I highly recommend. 470 sqm and just few meters to go to snorkel. Thanks to all the team but especially to Diyana Buddy Dudu and Palauvee

My husband and I came to Amilla Fushi for our honeymoon early November 2023. I did a TON of research searching over 50 resorts in the Maldives. What stood out to me about Amilla was their sustainability concept, elevated culinary dining options, updated over the water villas, wildlife and activity offerings and being located in the biosphere known for the best reefs and snorkeling in the world. When we arrived to Male airport after a 27hr long trip from Boston, we were greeted by one of the Amilla staff members. They had a sign for us when we went through security, took all our luggage and navigated us through all the crowds and to the private Amilla bus. We had about an hour before our sea plane was ready to go and so were taken to Amilla’s private lounge to wait which was very nice. We boarded our seaplane and about 40 mins later we were landing in the middle of the Ocean. Immediately upon our arrival there was a private transport boat waiting for us to take us to the resort <5 mins away! As we arrived to Amilla, there was Maldivian drums playing and we were greeted with cold coconut beverages and introduced to our private butler, Samir and golf cart to take us on a tour around the resort and to our villa. Overall, my husband and I had such an incredible time on our honeymoon. We had the full board all inclusive package which was worth every penny! Our housekeeper kept our Villa clean and tidy throughout our stay including turn down services when we were out to dinner. We would have the cutest little treat waiting for us from dinner in the form of a healthy/ organic bar to help with jet lag/ energy/ digestive you name it, from our travels. Our housekeeper even decorated our bed with a happy honeymoon and see you soon on our last night. The staff were all so so pleasant and really made the effort to make sure we felt at home and taken care of. Samir, was there for whatever we needed. He checked in on us throughout our stay and arranged any activity, excursion, spa experience we wanted to do. He also arranged all our dinners. There were a few days where it rained and Samir would pick us up in the golf cart and take us wherever we needed to go. I LOVED the personalized bikes we had!! He also made me feel so safe if I saw shark which I have a huge fear of by sharing his stories being local to the area and there never being any attack. We had the sunset Villa and Unfortunately the third night we were to there it rained so hard due to a bad storm that water was leaking through our ceiling. We told Samir and quick action was taken. Amilla gave us the option to stay in a private beach villa or lagoon villa. We ended up going with the lagoon Villa. Samir and the staff took care of everything in terms of packing us up and transferring everything over. Really was seamless. The manager also personally came to us to apologize and schedules a super relaxing couples massage for us. It was very thoughtful and we just felt so well taken care of. It was also so cool to experience the two different villas! We swam off our decks ant both villas into the ocean which was just incredible. We would see all different kinds of fish and even saw a few reef sharks! Overall, Amilla was absolutely incredible and my husband and I have already talked about doing anniversaries there for the future. The food was incredible, service incredible, plenty of excursions and activities offered. Oh and the pool was HUGE and absolutely beautiful looking right out to the ocean. They told us the resort was pretty booked but I felt like we would be the only ones in the pool some days and it did not feel crowded at all. Thank you Samir and to the rest of the Amilla resort team. Absolute incredible experience and a honeymoon we won’t forget!

Finding the right luxury resort in the Maldives can be challenging. After extensive research to find a resort that met our needs: small island, sand all the way around the island, good value, easily accessible by seaplane, good diving facilities and varied dining options, we opted for Amilla. The systematically excellent Trip Advisor reviews helped to sway us in the direction of Amilla as well – we figured any GM that takes the time to respond to every single review reflects someone who genuinely cares about his guests. This was not our first Maldives trip but our beloved resort from year’s past was recently bought out by a chain and was closed for renovation. The Amilla seemed like a good alternative and proved to be so. The Amilla experience begins before arriving in the Maldives. The customer service is outstanding. The reservation staff is reactive and solutions-oriented. Before arriving, the team already knew a lot, ranging from our dietary preferences to our preferred bed linen options. The airport staff is friendly and efficient. The lounge at the new seaplane terminal is comfortable and welcoming. Upon arrival at the island, you are met by the team and the person who is assigned to taking care of you throughout your stay. In our case, it was Jupiter. She was incredible, catering to our every need and often anticipating our needs. The first room we had booked turned out to be on the windy side of the island (Reef Villa) so we could not take advantage of the pool on our terrace. It was a shame because the inside of the villa was wonderful and spacious with tons of closet space. We were lucky that a couple of days later a sunset villa freed up and we moved. That was a real treat. The Amilla has an excellent choice of dining options: Japanese, Indian, Italian and a themed buffet. The food was consistently excellent and the service outstanding. The diving center is well staffed – all professional, friendly and highly qualified. The tennis pro, Marcus, is fully dedicated and is kind enough to play on the sunny side of the court while the other side is under the shade (before 11am!). The spa team is also great. We booked three 90-minute massages during our 12 day stay – that’s how good they were. The rooms are very comfortable, the AC is quiet and effective, the TV connects to your device and the bathroom products (Aesop) are fantastic. The room also includes a number of adapters for electronic devices as well sun screen. Induction charging for phones is also available by each bedside. The WiFi throughout the resort is outstanding. It’s hard not to continue gushing about Amilla. The combination of excellent management and the beauty of the island really stand out. And the most valuable asset of the Amilla is the staff. A special shout-out to Jupiter, Jambe, Lisa, Ahmad (best beach manager ever), Victoria, Marcus, the dive center crew and the spa team. And of course to Jason who leads by example and sets the tone from the top. Thank you all for making our stay memorable. We hope to be back soon.

We visited Amilla for the first time this year. We often go to Milaidhoo, in the Baa Atoll, and were looking for a nearby island. Amilla fitted the location so we thought we'd try it for four nights. We are very glad that we did as we had a really great few days. Amilla and Milaidhoo are very different, which works perfectly for us. Amilla is a larger island, with more amenities, and I imagine works really well for families. As it happened, we were there at a quiet time (before half term) which allowed us to take full advantage of all the amenities. The things we really liked about the island were: 1. Very nice room - large water villas with huge internal space. Spotlessly clean and very comfortable beds. 2. Very good food - particularly in the Feeling Koi and Barolo restaurants. My husband had some fantastic sushi in Feeling Koi. The choice and range of restaurants was very good and we were able to try every restaurant. 3. Lovely beach bar - the bar on the beach is really beautiful. Perfect place to chill at sundown. Punchy gin and tonics - perfect. 4. Great beach and pool. The pool is one of the biggest pools I've ever seen! It's really beautiful and we were able to hog it for a few days. 5. Excellent gym - first class facilities, with two separate buildings for cardio and weights. Gyms are often not great in the Maldives but this is definitely an exception. It was actually a pleasure to go! 6. Spa treatments - we had a fabulous couples massage with both of us really enjoying the experience. 7. Beautiful house reef - we are really keen snorkellers and always pick islands that have a lovely reef. Amilla was beautiful. The currents were very strong whilst we were away but we could see that it was settling down as we left. The snorkelling in slightly calmer conditions would be fabulous. 8. Lovely team. The people in Maldivian islands are always lovely but we really did have fantastic service at Amilla. Everybody was extremely friendly. A big thank you to Mansi, Jai, Irufan, Anth, Jambe, Yasuda, Mani and Thahir. And of course, especially to our lovely 'butler' Hajar, who catered for our every need in a very friendly way. A big thank you to Narelle and team for giving us a really great few days. We arrived uncertain what to expect but left knowing that we will book again. We really liked Amilla and look forward to returning.

Our experience at Amilla Resorts was nothing short of perfect. My husband and I came here for our honeymoon, and it was our first time visiting the Maldives. Among many resorts, we were looking for a place that was quiet, secluded, with a beautiful ecological environment, and offered Chinese butler service. Our stay here exceeded all expectations. A special thanks to our butler, Jupiter, for making our Amilla experience wonderfully memorable. Thanks to Rahat from housekeeping for keeping our room clean and tidy every day. Also, the restaurant staff Jai, Adi, and Raya, your friendly service left a lasting impression on us. If it’s your first time visiting the Maldives, I sincerely recommend considering Amilla!

Our stay was excellence in paradise at it’s best. The pool villa was spacious, private and equipped top-notch. The team catered to all our needs and we felt the service was very personal and from the heart. We felt like our wishes were fulfilled before we even had to asked for it - special thanks to our Katheeb. The island itself has a lot of natural greenery and can be discovered by bicycle or buggy service. It felt very private and helped us to relax so quickly. The massages by the spa team were performed very professionally by focusing on the preferences we discussed before. Also we would like to particularly highlight the culinary experience starting from the wide breakfast selection with numerous healthy options also for vegans and vegetarians to the evening dinner offers which holds various menus available for any preference. For a lunch snack we also tried the pizzas as there is a dedicated hut with stone oven for it - compliments to the pizza chef to create this delicious snack on an island in the Indian Ocean. On our tour around the island we discovered a little garden where fresh products are grown. In the room amenities were presented beautifully with recycled plastic packagings - congratulations to these sustainability initiatives. To wrap up: Thank you to everyone from Amilla for such a wonderful service with so many individual touches at a stunning high class island environment. We loved every moment at the island!

We had the best time at Amilla for our honeymoon in October 2023. Everyone was so hospitable and made us feel so welcome and at home. Nothing was ever too much trouble. Special mentions to our Khateeb Samail (known as Sam) who took such good care of us, Narelle the General Manager, Geoff the Director of Food and Beverages, Nafha the Maldivian chef, Ayya our awesome waiter, Mauman our housekeeper - honestly though, literally everyone we met working front of house and back of house were so genuinely wonderful. *Villa - We stayed in the Sunset Overwater Villa - super spacious, clean, comfortable and awesome, we loved loved loved it. It included a comfortable king sized bed facing the water and two outdoor showers in addition to the indoor one and a bathtub if you fancy a soak. Our villa was serviced twice a day and there were yummy turndown treats each night when we returned to our villa for the night. *Food - one of us is coeliac and it was food heaven being at Amilla (we definitely expanded our waistline while we were there). There was so much choice in every restaurant and all the chefs took so much care with ensuring there was delicious gluten free food with no cross contamination - we were so appreciative. They did say if there was something on the menu we wanted, we could ask them to make it for us. Nothing ever was too much trouble for them. *Activities - While you could just spend your time lounging around the resort or in your villa, if you want something to do, you would definitely not be bored as there was so much on the calendar to do - yoga, DJ class, cooking class, art class, snorkelling to name a few. One of the highlights was swimming with Manta Rays at Hanifaru Bay - such an amazing and once in a lifetime experience. A special thanks to the Amilla team for going above and beyond for us. We wanted to visit a nearby resort to dine at their underwater restaurant and they made it happen for us with organising a transfer. It was so good, it made it hard to leave. We are still talking about our time at Amilla to this day. We look forward to returning (hopefully soon)! Thank you again for making our honeymoon such a memorable one! Michelle & Nathanael

Apologies for the delayed review, but I couldn't let nearly a year pass without expressing how truly memorable our stay at Amilla resort was. It EXCEEDED all expectations and stands out as a GENUINE 5-star experience across the board. This being our third visit to the Maldives, we can confidently say it's unparalleled. Beyond the kindness and impeccable service of the staff, we were particularly impressed by the dining options. The restaurants offered the best culinary experience we've had in the Maldives, featuring extraordinary venues and top-notch table service. Despite the resort being fully booked, the island's spacious layout creates an illusion of seclusion. Amidst a plethora of activities, we couldn't possibly indulge in everything we wanted, even after a week-long stay. Our Sunset Water Pool Villa was exquisite, and the housekeeping service (twice daily) maintained a consistently high standard. The provided bicycles proved both fun and essential for navigating the expansive and lush island. As avid snorkelers, we can attest that the house reef is one of the best in the Maldives. It was a magical spectacle at night even if it was the end of the season and very few were left! Last but certainly not least, a special shoutout to Vicky, who was always attentive, making our stay truly memorable. A huge thank you to the entire team, including Murray, Dudu, Hajar, Ratih, Shaad, Jambe, and many others. We highly recommend Amilla; finding an island and service of this caliber is a rare gem.

Excellent from start to finish. We had a room with a sunset view which was absolutely beautiful. Rooms on the sea have a private plunge pool with a ladder down to the sea. We did several excursions, the local island visit with visits to Kendhoo and another island with an Amilla guide to walk us around which was really nice to see the non resort islands We did the house reef snorkelling which was my first time snorkelling and I had no idea how much we would see, it’s pretty spectacular down there and we saw all manner of wildlife, we also were able to keep hold of our snorkelling gear and do some more snorkelling on our own which was also excellent Turtle discovery was the highlight for us, we saw approximately ten turtles, both Green and Hawksbill which was beautiful to see Dolphin discovery was also great we found a pod of also probably 10 or so dolphins including a baby Sunrise fishing was a very early start but very much worth it, really good experience with a great team of people The restaurants on the resort are all great, our favourites were Feeling Koi and Barolo. The DAI package means that almost all food is inclusive and plenty of drink also included so worth opting for this Our Khateeb Nappe was excellent and very attentive, he checked in with us a couple of times a day and made sure all our needs were met. Special thanks to him and also to Mauman our housekeeper who did a great job of keeping the place tidy whilst also adding some artistic and creative flair over our stay. Mauman and Nappe also went out of their way to arrange a floral bubble bath for my wife when they found out she is pregnant. Something they did not need to do but we are incredibly grateful to them for doing The resort is an incredible place and Nappe and Mauman really made our trip special, i hope we will be back in the future. Thank you Amilla for an amazing holiday, Dave & Juliet

From a hygienic point of vue. The best room of the villa was the bathroom. Also the furniture outside and inside was not very comfortable.Especially the dining “chairs” . Service was not on par with the previous 5 star resorts we had visited over the past few years. For dinner you had to book a table and many times we came and there was no table set for us (4)Even for our last dinner[ which was also my birthday ]no mention of our departure,no birthday wishes . Nothing. They knew because at breakfast a nice lady congratulated me and our cheerful room attendant Sahadat made me some bday decorations. Even our Khateeb/villahost did not mention it.The GM not once came at our table at some time of the week.Feeling Koi our least favorite because it lacks ambiance.Such a pity because it is the only overwater outlet .Vakkaru,Nautilus,Soneva Fushi ,Kihavah ,FS Giravaaru and Huvafen the service is (much)better than at Amilla. We will not return.

I got so much helpful information from the reviews here and in the forums that I am very happy to share our views of Amilla and our wonderful holiday. We organised a two island, 10 day break flying direct with Virgin. A separate lounge area with bar, fridge and ability to make drinks. We were on the Dine Around AI package which made life very easy. Breakfasts were fantastic – so many choices and fabulous food. There was a choice of places for lunch – or indeed you could have in villa service. A range of choices from Asian to western. We ate in all the restaurants and enjoyed the Maldivian and Mediterranean dining evenings. Lots of choice and lots of help with unfamiliar dishes especially from the lovely Naf who shared her enthusiasm for all things Maldivian. The dive school was one of the best we have found worldwide; professional, safe, friendly and determined everyone should have a great time. Thanks to Silvio and all the team. We loved the spa treatments and exploring the island with orchid and kitchen gardens. Most importantly it was people who made this place really special.

However, it's important to note a few aspects that tempered our overall experience. The natural surroundings of the island, while wild and enchanting, revealed some areas of the village left unkempt. This may be inconsequential to some, but for those who value a well-maintained environment, it's worth considering. The Feeling Koi restaurant and the pizza were very good. However, one inconvenience was the impossibility to have cold water during meals, a detail that may not suit everyone's preference. A notable drawback is the high pricing of excursions and activities on the island. The costs felt somewhat disproportionate to the overall expense of the stay. On a positive note, we extend our thanks to Rahat, a staff member who stood out for his kindness and attentiveness throughout our stay. His efforts in maintaining the cleanliness of our room were appreciated and contributed to a comfortable stay. The rooms, while generally comfortable, have a slightly dated feel. Despite this, they were adequately maintained, offering a peaceful retreat. A nice feature of the resort is the option to explore the island by bike, providing a quiet and eco-friendly means of transportation. In summary, this resort provides a serene escape into nature, with some considerations to keep in mind. The tranquil atmosphere make it a suitable choice for those seeking a quieter retreat. However, improvements in certain areas could enhance the overall experience.

We stayed at the Amilla for Christmas and it was absolutely awesome. We are a family of 5 with a 16, 14 and 10 year old and stayed in one of the 2 bedroom lagoon water villas. The villa was very spacious and well equipped even including life vests. We had a dedicated butler and housekeeper. The housekeeper Rahat was absolutely brilliant, always bringing a beaming smile, very attentive and extremely thoughtful. Nothing was too much trouble. The very friendly butler Nappe made sure we had all our activities and dinners organised, and helped us get oriented and around the island. The Christmas Eve Gala dinner and breakfast the following morning on Christmas Day was spectacular with some incredible foods and presented beautifully and festively. We spent just under 2 weeks there and there was no shortage of activities from fishing, snorkelling, scuba diving, paddle boarding, spa treatments, etc to keep those more active people busy. We would thoroughly recommend Amilla Fushi!

From the moment we booked until we arrived at Amilla - our family holiday is truely a memorable experience. As mentioned numerous times in previous reviews, the service level is immaculate, personal, courteous and most importantly - highly consistent across the many Amilla staff members that we encountered. Amilla's lounge room at Male airport was super pleasant for a short layover. And the Reef Villa was super generous in size and perfect for the four of us. My favourite activity is being able to snorkel straight to the amazing coral formation straight from your villa. The coral appears natural and abundant with many marine life and if you are lucky enough - you may get to snorkel alongside a sea turtle ! Our butler, Nappe was amazingly helpful and highly attentive in organising our daily needs. Our daughter broke her swimming goggles and Nappe is kind enough to give us a spare goggle. We spend most of our time at the main pool - which was surprisingly quiet and the (free) ice cream was a hit with the kids. One of the key Amilla difference is - the whole island feels charmingly quiet, naturally lush and exclusive - which is a BIG tick for us. Our bicycle rides (even supplied tri-cycle for my wife) around the island was fun, our afternoon walk with Zoe was memorable and the morning yoga classes was a great start to the day. Highly recommend the half board - amazing array of breakfast buffet and 3 courses for dinner, which is super generous and more than enough food for everyone, the "Maldivian Night" which was a highlight. Picking a resort at the Maldives is never easy and you will not regret staying at Amilla. Thank you to everyone who makes our stay a memorable one !

We flew over 24 hours from LA to The Maldives to spend a week at The Amilla and it was by far the best trip we have ever taken! 100% worth the long journey! The location itself has 360 degrees of gorgeous views everywhere you turn. The white sand beaches, the blue skies, and the endless calming ocean. Each area of the resort is beautifully designed and decorated - everything from the rooms to the restaurants.
We stayed in one of the Ocean View Villas on the water. It was incredible! So much fun to be able to jump into the ocean and snorkel right after rolling out of bed! The entire outdoor space is so nice and private - and the outdoor shower to rinse off after an ocean swim is such a great touch as well. The bed was super comfortable. The space was large and bright with floor to ceiling windows that face the ocean. There was even an espresso machine and they provided us plant based milk! The food at The Amilla was out of this world! My husband is vegan, but I eat everything. The Amilla was so great for us both. The Amilla had many restaurants - all which had entirely separate vegan menus. As a vegan, my husband often runs into vegan options that either lack protein or are overly bland. The Amilla blew us both away with every vegan dish! They were all very carefully thought out with great flavors and a great variety. On my end, the non-vegan food was also incredible! All the fish was soooo tasty! The cocktails were delightful - the coconut sorbet martini which is made from their own home made coconut sorbet with coconuts grown on the island was a particular favorite. The spa! We had two of the best massages we’ve ever had at The Amilla. We feel so bad we cannot recall the names of the fabulous masseuses! In addition to the massages, The Amilla has sauna and steam rooms that are open air and right on the beach. Pure relaxation. We took several excursions while we were there that were all so fun! We got to snorkel with sea turtles and we saw soooo many dolphins on the sunset dolphin cruise! Finally, the best part of The Amilla was the people! There were so many wonderful staff members we met throughout our stay. Our Katheeb, Naif, was super cool, friendly, and knowledgeable - guiding us through our entire stay. Indran, who manages all guest villas, was so welcoming and kind. He and Naif went above and beyond in making our trip a one of a kind experience. My husband is a sound designer for film and television and they hooked us up with multiple incredible sound recording opportunities. We would also like to give a big shout out to our house keeper Yousuf! He made our bed each day with a new, creative and beautiful design - turtles, manta rays, love birds and more - what an artist and a kind soul! All the staff around the island were so great - we couldn’t remember quiet everyone’s names but a few we did remember to jot down were Yasuda, Mansi, Ledow and Haseef! There was a nice young woman from Turkey with cool tattoos and a wonderful bartended at the bar on the beach from Sri Lanka as well - we are toasting him with a lion beer! All in all, our trip to The Amilla Maldives was an incredible once in a lifetime experience! If you have a chance to go - don’t miss it!

We have been to a few Maldives resorts and Amilla exceeded them all. The island is stunning with the natural beauty and rainforest feel. The staff are so friendly and funny and happy to fulfill your every wish. And the clear commitment to saving the planet is evident all over the island. We stayed in a Reef Water Villa which was stunning and absolutely huge for just two people. We were looked after by Hajar for the duration of our stay and she would help us with excursions, spa and restaurant bookings and generally just check in with us regularly to make sure we had everything we needed. We chose the island because of the natural beauty but also the selection of restaurants and bars available and the description of the house reef. None of these disappointed and we were treated to some amazing food and excellent snorkelling opportunities spotting sharks, rays, turtles and much more. My other half likes to spot things he would improve at holiday destinations and even he couldn’t come up with anything he would change. We will absolutely return to Amilla and in fact I can’t imagine going to a different Madives resort now we have experienced this one.

We had the best experience here at Amilla Resort. Everything was perfectly arranged and handled by their staff from booking, arrival, stay to departure. We stayed in a 2-bedroom Beach Villa, which was spacious and super clean. It had all the amenities we needed and more. The resort was perfect for a family with kids. There was a kids' activities center, an open cinema, a poultry farm where kids can pick up eggs for breakfast. In addition to the usual beach activities and sea excursions. We would like to extend our appreciation to all the staff there, especially to Areesha at the seaport launge, Adipta at the restaurant and the beautiful and caring Hajer. Amilla Resort is one of the few places in the world that I really would like to visit again.

Amilla is an incredibly special place, with impeccable service, perfect for families and those looking for an amazing house reef. This was my 3rd time in the Maldives (Anantara Dhigu and Lux South Ari Atoll), but first with the kids (10 and 12). I was very impressed by the service and attention to detail, from the moment I reached out. Naïf, the young man that greeted us upon arrival in Male, and took care of us on departure, was genuinely friendly, incredibly welcoming and beyond his years in how to take care of guests. Nappe, our butler while at Amilla was always there for anything we needed, removing any potential hassles while never being over bearing. We stayed in a Reef Villa, for easy access to snorkeling, and I will say for anyone who loves the ocean, it’s an incredible experience. We’ve been lucky enough to dive and snorkel all over the world, and I have never seen a reef / wall so booming with life, and certainly not had such easy access to it. You are obviously at the mercy of the weather, but we did have about half of the trip with no wind, making glassy, crystal clear conditions. Was challenging not stay in the water all day. The snorkeling was better than most dives. Massive schools of fish, of all varieties, sharks, eagle rays, turtles, dolphins.. basically everything you could imagine if you are patient enough. Regardless of weather, the rooms are massive, very comfortable and big enough for the four of us. Our bikes with personalized license place made for magical bike rides around the island, which almost feels empty with people spread out in their villas, at the beach, or on excursions. Another highlight, was I never felt like we were being nickel and dimed for every little thing. While obviously not cheap, Amilla was great value, and rather than crush you with little added fees once there, they provide the little things like water, free ice cream, kids ate for free etc. it was appreciated. Can’t wait to come back

Amilla Maldives is heaven on earth. Heaps of variety for food, the buffets have everything you could want and the service and friendliness from all staff is beyond anything we have had before. We had Jupiter for our Katheeb and Yousuf for our housekeeper and they are both remarkable!!! They made our stay so special and we will miss them!! Ivan’s fire show was also spectacular!! He is on instagram under i_vantt The sunset fishing trip was fantastic and make sure you book into the daily art class!! We also did the Penguin Boat which was awesome. It’s a semi submersible that you can sit in and watch the marine life. It’s also air conditioned. I had a massage in the spa and Dewi is amazing. She is so lovely as is all the staff. We had a 2 bedroom overwater villa (number 311) and the size of the villa was enormous! The 2nd bedroom for the kids was separated by a walkway bridge and they had their own king single beds. Our bed was huge (super king) and was so comfortable. They provide everyone with a bike and my daughter my happy to get a 3 wheeler! They have all sizes to suit all ages. There is nothing that we would change about our stay. They provide beach/pool towels, snorkeling equipment, insect repellent as well as in the bathrooms, shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, cotton buds, hairdryer, etc Yousuf bought us an air dryer to hang our wet clothes on when he saw us use all the hangers and hung them about the place. If you need anything they can provide it! The nightly turn down treats are made with ingredients for a good night sleep and Amilla has options for different diets. Gluten free, dairy free, Vegan etc. We chose Amilla for the variety of restaurants, Joe’s pizza, Barolo Italian, Feeling Koi Japanese, Chill’d cafe just to name a few. Some resorts we looked at didn’t have as much variety and with kids they could choose whatever they wanted. The homemade ice cream was so good as well. If you are considering Amilla Maldives for you Maldives holiday definitely jump at the chance to experience this boutique resort that is locally owned my Maldivians you will not regret it!!

Being welcomed to the resort with coconut drinks and personalized buggy was a great start to our mini honeymoon. Until the last day when we had to leave the whole stay was exceptional thanks to the wonderful service by staff. We stayed at the Reef Villa which is right on top of reef and it did not disappoint as we were able to dive in whenever we wanted to, and were also encountered with beautiful ocean lives! We found that the resort is one of the natural islands in the Maldives which explained the rich ocean life as well as the nature within the resort. The room itself was very spacious, and most importantly super clean as staff would come and clean twice a day. We visited the resort for our short honeymoon for 4 nights, but we were able to do many activities like: - sunset dolphin cruise - blue hole snorkeling - sunrise yoga class - sound healing class - bath tea making And many more ! We did not book any of them in advance but I would highly recommend booking them in advance. Service at the resort and it’s restaurants were also amazing, as the resort has multiple restaurants and bars we were able to enjoy a new option every night. For those who want to have more of a private experience I would recommend having room service and also booking a special dinner plan in advance during sunset. The views from the main restaurants and bars were absolutely breathtaking. Overall an amazing stay and I would love to go visit there again!

Best bit of the whole stay was the staff though - service impeccable! Our butler, Hajar, was so attentive and helpful! We were blown away by the unparalleled beauty and luxury of the island. The staff at Amilla are the true gems of this resort. From the friendly smiles that greeted us upon our arrival to the personalized services, the staff at Amilla truly know how to elevate the guest experience. We’d like to give a special shout-out to a few people that made our time at Amilla extra special. Our butler, Svetlana, who helped make this trip one I’ll never forget by planning the most magical night with my (now) Fiancé as she helped orchestrate the entire proposal with him. Not only that, she booked all our reservations, services, activities & more. If you come to Amilla, you must attend Nithin’s 6AM sunrise yoga class. The early morning wake-up call will be well worth it! His expertise in wellness, mindfulness, and spirituality were life changing. Lastly, our Room Attendant, Mauman, went above and beyond with the beauty, cleanliness, and detail in our room. I have never seen my belongings so perfectly organized and his bed art is truly a masterpiece. The diverse range of restaurants offered an array of delicious dishes, each prepared with the freshest ingredients and presented with artistic flair. Whether it was a romantic dinner on the beach, floating breakfast in your private pool, or just a casual lunch, every meal was outstanding. Amilla’s commitment to sustainability, it’s all around beauty, and everything mentioned above left an everlasting impression on us. It is more than just a luxury resort, but a place where dreams come to life. The Maldives had always been a dream destination of ours and Amilla helped make that dream (and so much more) come true! This was our first trip to the Maldives and we’re so glad we chose Amilla after a lot of research. Our main criteria in choosing a resort was the location. We wanted to be based in Baa Atoll, a UNESCO World Biosphere Reserve. The whole stay at Amilla was fantastic from start to finish. From the pickup at the airport, relaxing at the airport lounge while waiting for the seaplane transfer, our sunset villa, dining and facilities on offer, wild life found at the resort and above all that the service provided by all the staff. It’s truly a beautiful place to stay and we had an incredible experience. Alex (our Katheeb) took great care of us for the whole stay. Besides showing us around the resort and available facilities, he helped expedite my delayed suitcase on the first day, sourced a tricycle for me to use during my stay (I don’t do bicycles!), inflated my pink flamingo ring float (only used in the pool), dinner reservations, spa treatment’s and excursions. On one occasion arranged for a life guard (thank you Faruhoodh!) to help retrieve a lost item that had accidentally fallen into the sea. Our sunset overwater villa was so great! We loved our infinity pool, the hammock, snorkelling options around the villa and beyond. Exceptional sea views and ever changing colour of the sky from dawn till dusk. We were so lucky to have also witnessed Bioluminescence waves right outside our villa on our last night. Everyday after lunch and dinner, you always knew you would return back to a lovely and well-maintained villa. And that’s all down to Waheedha (our house keeper). On a particular day, he was super helpful with the Venetian blinds and window in the bathroom. So I could get that instagram worthy photo of the sea view from the bathtub. We enjoyed our days exploring the resort on two and three wheels, and snorkelling at various locations. Our favourite spot is outside the beach villas near the jetty where the spa is located. The blue hole snorkel trip was also amazing, special thanks to Waxy, the snorkel guide. He was so kind to take our GoPro and took some amazing under water videos for us. We also went on the dolphin discovery excursion. during our stay, we were so fortunate to see these amazing creatures (various colourful fish, turtle, reef sharks, stingray) in their natural habitat. The food options on offer at the resort is second to none. We opted for a half-board stay, as we usually only have two meals and are non-drinkers. We always enjoyed our breakfasts after a quick morning swim. Anth (F&B) was excellent and always attentive every time we saw her. The Maldivian and Asian nights were real highlights. These only occur once a week (Friday and Tuesday respectively). On the other days, we also tried East (Indian), Feeling Koi (Japanese) and Boralo (Italian). I tried out the complementary 30 minute massage and was treated by Asmi at the spa. Prior to that we met her on our second day while getting a little lost in the jungle, she was so kind to show us around, and we were shown the glamping globe, gym and other spa facilities. We also used the private sauna / steam rooms later in the week with great views of the beach and sea. We would highly recommend everyone to come and stay at Amilla, you will not be disappointed by your decision.

We just recently got back from the beautiful resort Amilla. Originally we had about 12-15 resorts that we were looking at and Amilla wasn't included. It was a very special trip for all of us since my son was planning to propose to his girlfriend there. Due to this, we had a lot of criteria in mind. About a week prior to making a final decision, our travel agent offered us to look at Amilla. She had just visited it and highly recommended. Without long consideration we booked 2 sunset villas and didn't regret! Upon our arrival to Male we were greeted by the resort's staff and brought to Amilla's lounge where we waited for our seaplane. The ride itself was so cool. We saw so many rainbows in the sky, it was just unreal! We landed and were brought to the island by a boat. The staff were waiting for us at the pier and greeted us with such love and kindness. We were assigned a butler Svetlana who made all our wishes come true. She was amazing! Svetlana booked all our excursions (dolphins and diving), restaurants, spa treatments and a very special engagement dinner on the beach. There were a lot of details to accommodate but everything went flowless. The food was exceptional and we do know what good food is :) All the staff we interacted with were extremally nice and helpful but I'd like to give our special gratitude to another staff member besides Svetlana. That would be Nithin, who was our yoga instructor at 6 am class and massage therapist. It wasn't easy to get up at 5:30 in the morning but was so, so worth it! We all experienced what true yoga is. It's a very spiritual connection with your own body. Nithin is an excellent teacher, I'd even say the best we've met so far. He was kind and patient, guided us through the classes with so much wisdom and encouragement. We also did Thamburu and Mirihi treatments with him. Simply the best! We definitely will be back and looking forward to do more yoga with him! :) If you are here, definitely treat yourself and try it and your life will never be the same. Thank you too all staff members who made our vacation so memorable and special. If I could give Amilla 10 stars, I would have. If you are here and reading my review - look no further - book it! :)

Amilla Fushi was our 5th visit to the Maldives. Maybe the most beautiful natural island we ever visited. 75% of the island remains natural and untouched. Beautiful beaches and with only 67 villas you have a lot of privacy. We stayed at sunset watervilla 201. A perfect choice for us, the first Villa of 10, close to the main pool, beach and restaurant but still all the privacy we were looking for when traveling to the Maldives. The Villa was the largest we so far had seen in the Maldives, the interior easy covers 100m2, with a very large, very comfortable bed. The deck is another 100m2, enough space for two beds outside, next to a table with two chairs and a large outdoor shower. The lap pool completes the beautiful Villa. It is a short couple of steps into the lagoon. Unfortunately corals here are all dead. Swimming or snorkeling to the reef drop off is easy and corals get a little better. even though the house reef is somewhat disappointing compared to the other resorts in the Maldives which we had visited in prior years (Hideaway, LTI Outrigger 2x, Adaraan Prestige Vadoo). I snorkeled about the whole island. Best places where the area around the blue hole, with a lot of small reef fish always staying there. Occasionally a black tip reef shark is passing, nurse sharks are living on the reef and eagle rays are passing on a regular base. Compared to the other resorts it was in particular the turtles which impressed and where easy to find. Mostly on the reef drop off in front of the large villas next to the jetty of Dive Butler. I was optimistic to visit Hanufaru Bay for Mantas at the end of the Season but unfortunately didn’t see one. This is worlds best place to snorkel or dive with Mantas, but only in Season (top months August and September. Diving nevertheless was great with excellent service by the boat crue and Sappe, my dive master. We saw a lot of beautiful soft coral overhangs, caves, and small fish such as stonefish, scorpionfish, lion fish, leaf fish, eels, octopus amongst others … and a lot of turtles, not afraid and staying with us when snorkeling or diving. I attached some diving pictures. My wife enjoyed some great spa acupuncture treatments. Food and restaurants were top class. But this was also the case with Hideaway and Outrigger LTI Maafushivaru. Our favorite place was Feeling Koi. I recommend as starter the Sashimi platter and as main the black cod. World class dishes certainly. A specific highlight different to other resorts is the option of once a day home delivery ( in Villa dining ) without extra charges. We used this option often during lunch, enjoying the beautiful scenery of our watervilla with a small bite. This option only comes with DAI all inclusive: but this would be my choice anyhow - a lot of value for a price; but you get champagne, wine and endless list of cocktails and also some full bottles of wine with some the minibar are included (not all). The quality of the wine or champagne included are pretty good, comparable to Hideaway but clearly better the Adaraan (more a four star resort) or Outrigger Maafushifaru. An absolute highlight is the free ice cream offered complimentary. For us a nice occasion to close the day with a cocktail, a port and a raspberry and passion fruit sorbet The natural island has a lot of vegetation and trees which comes handy because it is always easy to sit in the shade close to the see or pool during breakfast or lunch. Compared to the size of the island there are not a lot of Villas which is a big plus for us. It is always easy to get a nice table on the beach, or pool or a bed on the beach… it is never full or crowded and we enjoyed this privacy. Certainly a place we can recommend and wish to return soon; it is in particular the hospitality and friendliness of all staff which make this place u forgettable. Thank you all, and hopefully see you back soon

Amilla came highly recommended both online and by my travel agent and lived up to every expectation. The rooms were lovely and very large, with a huge bathroom and a larger than usual pool in the garden space. I had a beach villa, which was very private, but just a few steps away from the beach and a couple of minutes walk to the spa area. My only gripe about the room was the lack of lighting in the seating area, but when I mentioned this I was provided with 2 extra lamps within the hour! I loved being able to whizz around the island on my trusty bicycle too. The staff at Amilla were all excellent, friendly and welcoming. My Katheeb (butler) Svetlana was super-efficient and responded very quickly to all enquiries and requests, and all the restaurant staff I came across were charming and attentive. A special mention for Nithin, the wonderful Yogi whose daily sunrise yoga was the perfect way to start the day, and Zoe, the Sustainablility manager whose enthusiasm for the local local wildlife was palpable, and whose presentation on marine life and bird-nesting walk I enjoyed very much. I went on a couple of scuba dives there with Shiny from Dive Butler which was also a fantastic experience. I felt very safe and was well-looked after, and the variety and beauty of the local sea-life is wonderful and inspiring. Having said that, non-divers can also see a huge amount simply by snorkelling along the reef which is accessible immediately off the beach. Lastly, but definitely not least, the food at Amilla is amazing! The breakfast buffet was one of the best ever, with everything from home-made Kombucha to pancakes and catering for all tastes, and all the dinners were just delicious. The choice of local dishes on Maldivian night was extensive and so incredibly tasty, and the Italian restaurant served me one of the best Carbonaras I have ever had outside Italy (sorry for ever doubting you!). Thank you Amilla. I will definitely be back one day.

On our honeymoon in French Polynesia, my husband and I made a goal to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary in the Maldives – and made that dream a reality this year when we stayed at Amilla for 10 days this year. We've been fortunate to travel to many incredible places in our years together, but this was the farthest either of us have ever been from our home in the USA: our biggest adventure yet. After reading the reviews here on TripAdvisor and on Google, we had high expectations of Amilla, and were amazed when the team there exceeded every. single. one. After a lot of thought and research, we chose to stay at Amilla because of the house reef (snorkeling was a big priority for us), the options for excursions, the gorgeous over water villas, the wildlife and jungle feel of the island, and the many food options. We worked with a travel agent to book our trip, who I found here on TripAdvisor and who has visited Amilla several times, so we were thrilled to get the inside scoop from someone who had first-hand experience (check out Laura Husson of Totally Laura Travels – she is amazing and SO knowledgable about the Maldives and Amilla!) I can't stress enough that Amilla's staff don't miss a beat, and you'll experience their over-the-top and personalized service from the minute you arrive at Male airport. We landed in Male and were immediately blown away by the resort's airport lounge and the kindness of the staff from the first interaction. The lounge itself was absolutely stunning and had all the amenities we could dream of after our long journey, including coffee, tea, snacks, and a shower, along with gorgeous views of the seaplanes and beyond. When we arrived at the resort after our seaplane and boat ride, we were greeted with an incredible welcome from the staff, and whisked away in a personalized buggy by our Katheeb, Bella, for a tour of the island, signature Amilla coconuts in-hand. This was a true pinch-me moment. The views were stunning and we immediately felt at home. During our 10 day stay at Amilla, we were in a super luxurious reef villa. We chose the villa so we would have easy access to the house reef whenever we wanted to explore the underwater life. The space was massive and even more beautiful than the photos! We were welcomed with champagne, fresh fruit, and some treats upon arrival, and every day, our villa seemed to be immediately stocked and freshened up magically by our attentive room manager, Mehedi. Not only that, but we came back to our villa on several evenings to sweet surprises, including gorgeous artwork outside our door and over-the-top bed decorations that we are still talking about! We spent a lot of time exploring Amilla's island and taking advantage of all of the amenities the resort has to offer. We opted for the highest level all inclusive package, and enjoyed that as much as we could. The restaurants on the island are all delicious, but we especially enjoyed the cuisine at East, Feeling Koi, and of course the never-ending breakfast buffet at Fresh. Don't miss Maldivian Night – the food and entertainment is exceptional! We wish we had access to the fresh fish, produce, and delicious curries that Amilla had to offer here at home. They grow much of their produce on-site, which was a huge perk! We thoroughly enjoyed several trips to the gorgeous Javuu Spa during our stay, trying several different types of massage and even a manicure! Javuu's team are very skilled. My husband's work takes a toll on his body, and after his first massage at Javuu, he looked like a completely new person – and he looked like a new person by the time our vacation ended thanks to the care of the Javuu team! Most memorably, we enjoyed many excursions at Amilla – and each was quite life changing. We were fortunate enough to snorkel with the mantas in Hanifaru Bay (a bucket list experience for us!) and also swim alongside colorful tropical fish, several sea turtles, reef sharks, and more. It sounds dramatic, but if you're a wildlife lover you may understand – I cried into my snorkel mask pretty much every day I was at Amilla, because the underwater views were so breathtaking and unlike anything I've ever experienced, including on our honeymoon in French Polynesia. If you love to snorkel, you absolutely have to visit Amilla. These are memories that I will truly treasure for the rest of my life, and made the entire trip absolutely unforgettable. We did experience some rainy moments while we were at Amilla, but I wouldn't allow that to discourage you from booking in late September or early October. The resort does a fantastic job of ensuring that their guests can still enjoy all the island has to offer on rainy days, and it also makes for better conditions to see the mantas! It was an exceptional time to be at Amilla because the resort wasn't full, so we often had the entire beach to ourselves and never had to worry about an excursion being full. We would book in the low season again for all of these reasons. With all of that being said, my husband Ryan and I want to extend a personal and heartfelt thank you to the many people who made our stay absolute magic, especially: - Bella, our Katheeb – you went above and beyond for us every single day, and we left Amilla feeling like we'd made a new friend in you. Thank you for the unforgettable experience you gave us and for making our anniversary beyond special. We will never forget your kindness! - Mehedi – you are creative and so detail-oriented, and your thoughtfulness made us immediately feel right at home in our Amilla villa. You anticipated our every need and made us feel really comfortable throughout our stay. Thank you so much for your hospitality! - Kauser – our BFF at Amilla! We looked forward to seeing you every day at the beach and sharing stories with you. Your positive attitude and disposition are unmatched. Thank you for making us feel so comfortable, for making us laugh, and for all the treats and goodies you shared with us throughout our stay. - Haseef – you were such an important part of our stay at Amilla, and we were blown away by how much you did to make us feel at home. Thank you for each and every meal you served us during our stay – your dedication and hard work did not go unnoticed. - Anth – we looked forward to seeing you every day at breakfast! Thank you for introducing us to banana mangoes...I'm still dreaming of them. We appreciate you so much. - Jambe and Murray – thank you for all the laughs and fun during our stay! - Lisa – we really enjoyed seeing you at the EBC most days for lunch. Thank you for being so kind and welcoming, and for going above and beyond for us! - Shamaan – you absolutely made our stay at Amilla and we will never forget you. Thank you for guiding us through incredible experiences with underwater life at Amilla and beyond, and for fulfilling my lifelong dream of snorkeling with sea turtles. You were beyond amazing and words cannot express the gratitude we feel for you and everything you did to make our Amilla stay unforgettable. I truly hope that this isn't our first and last visit to Amilla. We are dreaming of the day we can return to the island to not only have more adventures, but also to reunite with the staff who are now our dear friends. If you're considering a trip to the Maldives, we cannot recommend Amilla enough.

We have recently returned from a 11 night stay at Amilla Maldives staying in one of the Lagoon water villas. On arrival in Male we were met and escorted very promptly and efficiently to the check in for seaplane and onwards to the Amilla lounge in the new, and much improved, seaplane terminal. The Amilla lounge was comfortable and really well appointed for the short (45 minute) wait for our seaplane transfer. Showers are available for anyone with a bit more time waiting etc. For anyone who has previously the experienced the old seaplane terminal the new one really is a game changer. After a short seaplane transfer followed by an even shorter speedboat we arrived at Amilla and were met by the resort team on the jetty and our Katheeb Nappe. We were given some coconuts and cold towels, a really nice touch, and given a lift on a golf cart to our villa via a brief tour of the island and amenities. We arrived at our villa (310) which was towards the end of the jetty which was as we had requested to maximise the morning/afternoon sun and to avoid being overlooked by sunset villas. As we entered the villa our first impression was of the space available, the villas truly are massive. We have stayed in the Maldives before and whilst space could never be described as being at a premium, this villa was much bigger than we have had previously. Nice to have a whole separate ‘sitting’ room side with separate air conditioning etc. Loads of storage and wardrobe space. Handy provision of bedside lamps with wireless charging pads and also USB in the back for the obligatory go pro and gadget charging. Pool was much bigger than we had previously also, and importantly, because of its aspect, much warmer. We found that leaving the AC on in the sitting room side, was actually sufficient for the whole villa and a little quieter. A small thing on the room if really being really critical, whilst the room had a very elaborate sound system, it felt a little dated, we found it difficult (and failed to) connect our phones, a more modern, portable Sonos/B&O system would be preferrable rather than all the ceiling mounted speakers and a cupboard full of AV kit, As I say, it clearly was a decent set up, but its just that tech has moved on so much in the last ten years. Not a game changer on any front but just maybe something that could be looked at if any room investments are planned. All the villas are provided with bikes which we actually found a really fun way to navigate the island and we used them for all of our visits to the restaurants and for getting about the place, some people chose to walk, and guess if we were in a sunset villa (closer to resort) we might have but zipping about on the little bikes was fun. Nappe (our Katheeb) looked after us politely, efficiently and proactively. I don’t think we perhaps we asked quite as much of him as some guests might but any requests for dinner reservations or activities were always met. I like the whatsapp system as well, far easier than having to call reception to make arrangements and whole resort pretty much had WIFI coverage. Yousef our housekeeper was lovely and friendly, and after a few days of syncing our routines where he realised that we didn’t go for breakfast but that I was often diving in the morning and my wife was at the gym, he would clean and replenish room amenities whilst we were away and we would often return to find a new palm leaf creation on the bed. Same in the evenings where we would generally eat a little later than most people I think. We would meet him coming up the boardwalk with a smile. Villa was always immaculate and he clearly took pride in his work without being obtrusive to our routine, the perfect balance, congratulations. All the service staff were always friendly and approachable. The nature of the island is pretty laid back, it’s what we personally want in an island, but maybe sometimes, some of the staff were a little too far on the laid back scale, and you had to make just that little bit too much effort to get their attention. We would never want fussy service and someone sat on our shoulder, and having worked in service industry for a long time, I recognise it’s a fine balance to get right, but given that the island was relatively quiet, I would have thought they might have just been a little more ‘on’ it. I would have my concerns if the resort was at capacity, but maybe once they are it almost becomes easier. I went diving with the team at Dive Butler on 5 mornings. Sadly the Manta’s had departed early this year so no sightings of them but the diving was still nice. Nice small groups on the days I went out, well appointed boat and decent kit. I was well looked after by Alex my DM. We went snorkelling quite a bit on the reef by the blue hole near our villa, but we actually found the best spot was off the jetty near the spa, saw lots of black tips there and occasional ray swimming past. Quite nice in the morning to see the small sharks herding the fish into the shallow. We specifically chose Amilla as the restaurants are all a la carte (evening) as we are definitely not fans of buffets. We were also not seeking gimmicky things like underwater dining etc, each to their own, but in our experience they have lacked some substance beyond the theatre of the venue. Lunchtime our preference was probably for Emperor Beach Club (EBC) we liked the lobster wraps, bao buns and taco’s, though Pizzas at Feeling chilled were also good, I particularly liked the Maldivian my wife the truffle one, she is Gluten free and it was nice that they were able to deliver GF base without issue. Only thing we found was that the menu was perhaps a little too similar fundamentally between the 2 lunch offerings. Maybe could introduce few more oriental dishes to EBC to differentiate it somewhat. Worst thing with EBC was the fly’s, as humidity was high, with the rain we had (out of Amilla’s control obviously) there were always lots of fly’s and Mosi’s. Staff were keen for us to sit inside to avoid this, but on the occasion we did sit inside, we were only ones doing so and found the room a little lifeless and felt a bit empty, also when you spend your life eating indoors, its nice to be outside on your holidays. Maybe a bit more pest fogging is needed? Appreciate the environmental trade-offs that go with that procedure however and that in trying to be as sustainable as possible it maybe doesn’t sit right. We ate at Feeling Koi on probably 4 or even 5 of our nights as we really enjoy sashimi/sushi and it is difficult to access where we live in the country. The sushi was of a very high standard with lots of choice which was a real treat. We had the sea bass and black cod for main course, but beyond these were a little uninspired further with mains so ended up having more sushi/sashimi on return visits. Its fine with us as we are fans of sushi, but maybe worth considering if you aren’t. We were also told in the downstairs restaurant that they were out of anything but house sake (which I’m afraid to say wasn’t the best) but later found out from another guest that they had the better grade cold sake upstairs in the sunset bar and that they had been brought down some on request and among their AI budget. Barolo was nice – good Tuna steak and pasta dishes. Not necessarily our favourite as cuisine easily accessible at home but each to their own. East was very good – we enjoyed a couple of meals there had great curries and tandoor food. We also went to the Maldivian night and sampled the buffet which was good with plenty of choice, avoid the red chutney however, its ferocious! We enjoyed the dancers at Maldivian night, was at least some link up to the local area which sometimes you can become a little unconnected with on these islands, it was also nice that Amilla arranged excursions to nearby inhabited islands (we didn’t participate so can’t comment). Had pre and post dinner cocktails most evenings. By end of our trip the guys in Baa Bar had our drinks order nailed on. Good cocktails in the sunset bar above feeling Koi also. The fire dancer was good – only thing we found a bit strange was the scheduling and then in following on from that the positioning of the act. The act was always outside the BAA bar but was normally on when most people were eating/finishing dinner so was seen very few people, if he moved along the beach a little, to say beach side of pool, more people would have seen the act whilst having dinner, or maybe schedule it for after dinner, say 9 or 9.30 and then may encourage people to the bar after dinner for a drink, it often felt a little lifeless post dinner. On the whole we enjoyed the food at Amilla but were perhaps not blown away by it. We have been fortunate enough to stay in a number of excellent resorts around the world and sample some amazing food, Amilla was really good but maybe not world class. Sadly – we did have one major negative with Amilla and I guess in particular our villa, though anyone renting a sunset or lagoon should be aware of it. On our penultimate full day we spotted resort staff moving a platform to nearby the blue hole on the edge of the house reef and end of snorkelling zone. I assumed that it was some sort of snorkelling or diving platform for the blue hole so I swam out to it. To my alarm when I got there I realised that it was not a snorkel platform but they had moved the seaplane jetty. This jetty was now within 3/400 metres of our villa. I fully appreciate that the seaplanes need to land somewhere, but this should not have been placed right in front of the lagoon/sunset villas, every other resort we have stayed in the jetty was on the opposite side of island to villas, or much further out to sea. Every time a plane landed (circa 4 a day) the people standing on the jetty were looking straight into our villa and then obviously on take off the associated plane noise was pretty obtrusive. Worse still was that this jetty seemed to service every other island in the vicinity for those few days so once the plane landed you had speedboats arriving and departing with guests. I messaged Fappe our butler about it and he said he would speak to the managers, they did offer to move us to one of the reef villas on the opposite side of the jetty, but we had specifically chosen the lagoon villa because of its aspect and we only had 2 nights and 1 full day left so we stayed where we were. A number of other guests who we had met during our stay were commenting on the jetty position for those last few nights, yet everyone had been told something different about why it was moved (airline request due to choppy seas, seasonal schedule) which seems suspicious. The map we looked at on booking didn’t show the jetty being located there (we wouldn’t have booked it), a subsequent map we have been shown does show ‘seaplane landing strip’ but no jetty pictured and the scale is definitely incorrect, the strip and jetty are much closer to the villas than map shows. No pictures on the resort gallery show the jetty in that position either. Far too close in my opinion for $1000 a night room. If this is important to you, I would certainly suggest that you check with the resort where the jetty is going to be at time of your stay, it now seems that it’s a seasonal change and that it will remain in that position now for some time. We landed on the old jetty at the opposite side of the island and for the majority of the week when it was there never even heard a seaplane, when it moved it was liking being in the seaplane terminal at Male. We certainly wouldn’t have booked a sunset or lagoon villa had we known that the jetty was going to be in that position, fortunately it was only for the last few days of our stay but had it been there the whole time we would have been really disappointed. On our return to Male, the service was equally slick, met at seaplane terminal, taken to lounge as we were too early for international terminal, bags kept in vehicle, then escorted right through to check in desk by ground staff. A really good top notch service from Amilla groundcrew on both arrival and departure. On the whole we had a really lovely time at Amilla, we have come back fully charged and refreshed after a lovely break on a tropical island. The seaplane jetty just took the shine off the holiday for us, which was shame.

Myself and my two adult nieces have just returned from a 9 night stay in a Sunset Water Villa. The villa was large and superbly equipped and accommodated the 3 of us very comfortably. We miss being able to step down into the lagoon that treated us to new experiences each and every time. The food is exceptional and catered very well for two vegans, the chefs do a great job and we were all spoilt for choice wherever we chose to eat. There is plenty to do both complimentary and by way of excursions and experiences. One of our many highlights was the sunset dolphin trip, where we saw both bottle nose and spinners, they surrounded the boat and gave us a spectacular performance. Amilla is a very special place that we were blessed to have the good fortune to be able to visit. We did a heart of House tour, taking us behind the scenes, this was very interesting and informative and helped us appreciate all the people that you do not see on a day to day basis but who contribute so much towards the guest experience. Please accept our thanks and appreciation for all you do. What makes Amilla so special? This is simple, it is the Staff who go out of their way to make your stay the best it can be. Narelle please thank everyone, as we couldn't learn and remember everyone's name! We would like to acknowledge some fantastic individuals who regularly looked after us. We apologise for any misspelled names. Buddy our Katheeb, was so helpful and very knowledgeable about the marine life, he went above and beyond to ensure we saw as much marine life as possible especially arranging a meeting with one of the resident turtles, our heartfelt thanks Buddy. Ahmed our room attendant, cleaned and tidied with care and detail, not easy with the chaos created by 3 women! Thank you Ahmed. Naf, a very creative chef, who checked in regularly that there was enough choice at meals for the vegans, even cooking vegan fish specially for us on one of the themed evenings. Her fun personality always shining through. Naf, thank you. Vipin who looked after us during our visits to the bar, carefully crafting wonderful cocktails, always smiling and happy to chat. Adi, regularly served us at meals, his smile and personality so captivating. We just always smiled in his presence. Too, Nooza, Ratih, Mansi and Esra Also regularly serving us always interested in our day and wanting to ensure we had everything we wanted. Lesley, why is he always so happy? Because he is in the Maldives 😄 Please also acknowledge our gratitude to the following people Chilli Naif Warish DJ Faacko And of course Narelle, thank you for the gum on departure 😁. (Our first time at Amilla, and our first time in the Maldives - so take this from a Maldives newbie perspective, but from someone with a decent amount of high-end accommodation in Asia and elsewhere.) ARRIVAL The Amilla experience starts the moment you land at Malé Airport, where an Amilla rep is waiting for you the moment you exit Customs, and in our case the seaplane was departing imminently so he rushed us through the seaplane checkin and got us in the Amilla van straightaway over to the seaplane terminal, where in short order we were boarding the Manta Air seaplane that delivered us after 35 mins or so to the Amilla pontoon, from there we boarded the Amilla speedboat to take us around to the harbour. Even from the start we could see how lush and unspoiled the island was. When we got to the pier, Narelle the GM and several staff were there to welcome us. We were given some coconut drinks, shown to our golf cart (with our names on) and introduced to our katheeb (butler/fixer) named Buddy, who gave us a quick tour of the island before heading out over the jetty towards the reef villas on the northwest tip of the island. We arrived at our villa 126 at the very end that we had requested in advance (for reasons that will be explained) and Buddy let us in and showed us around. It was huge! GENERAL VIBE Jungly, not too built-up. Laidback. Not bling. Lazy bike rides everywhere. Bats flying through the trees. Largely felt uninhabited except at mealtimes. Elegantly classy without being stuffy. Maybe slightly disjointed in terms of guest interactions, but maybe that's just the Maldives for you. THE ROOM Everything you could ask for. So much space in a reef villa. Separate living and sleeping quarters. Unimaginable amounts of cupboard and storage space everywhere. Power sockets everywhere you would want them. Big comfortable bed. Individual AC in each section. Total privacy - especially being at the end, we were mostly completely unaware of any other guests in the vicinity. A couple of loose floorboards here and there, but nothing more troubling than that. THE DECK A decent-sized deck with table, sunbeds, a larger daybed, an umbrella, a shower, the infinity pool and of course with the steps down to the reef and only 20-30m to the reef dropoff, we knew we'd be doing some epic snorkelling. Because we had requested room 126 at the end, we had an uninterrupted view of the sea to the west of us, which we took full advantage of over a number of gorgeous Maldivian sunsets. From the other staff: Raya was always very sweet to us when we dined down by the pool, always a happy interaction. Aditya too always radiated positivity and helpfulness. Naf was amazing doing her descriptions of the Maldivian food and taking her time with us. Lesley was always up for a good chat and making sure to look after us. I can't recall the name of the Indian chap at the Baa Bar but he was invariably friendly as well. Waxy and Ahmed in the snorkel excursions were really helpful guides. Housekeeping: Unobtrusive but magical in the sense that anytime we popped out for more than an hour or two, something new seemed to get done to the room. Loved the little treats in the evenings when we returned from dinner. THE WEATHER We were fairly lucky it seems, with a shower on the first day, one on the last day, and a whole lot of sunshine in between. I have seen others complain that the weather was too rough for them to snorkel, but we mostly could go in whenever we wanted. THE FOOD Overall trending to positive, but maybe not amazing. Breakfast buffet was great - lots of variety to suit your mood. The pastries were top-class and the coconut ones as well as the chocolate passionfruit were stellar. Decent enough hot options including waffles, eggs cooked to order etc. Lunch options: Mostly decent enough without being outstanding. I would say Chill'd just edges Emperor Beach Club in quality, but there is not much in it. Highlights were tuna poke bowl, the ethical burger, the club sandwich, the pad thai. The "Maldivian fried chicken" at the EBC was a bit stodgy. The maki rolls at Chill'd slightly reminded me of supermarket sushi compared to the great ones at Feeling Koi. Generally across both places I thought the fries were undercooked on multiple occasions. Dinners: Standouts for us were the Maldivian night - some great curries - and East especially the tikka dishes. Found Barolo fine but not excellent. Mixed feelings about Feeling Koi as the sushi/sashimi standard was very good, but I felt the mains lacked imagination and had a slightly basic interpretation of Japanese food. Where are the ramens, the soba, the udon, okonomiyaki, tonkatsu, katsu curry etc? I love a bit of chicken teriyaki but it seems sort of 1990s version of Japanese food. Even a Wagamama in the UK would have a more advanced vision of Japanese food than FK. As longtime fans of Japanese food, I think this could have been a lot better. IMPROVEMENTS: Whilst we were very happy with our stay overall, we had a couple points of improvement: - Not sure what can be done about it, but the general ambience around the pool at dinner time lacked something. It seemed quite dead even at 60% occupancy. Same with the bars. - I would have thought that some of the evening entertainment e.g. the fire show would have made more sense to position where the diners were rather than in front of an empty bar - One of the reasons we picked Amilla was because of the food choice and the general quality of the food. We were expecting to be blown away and I don't think we had more than 1 or 2 "OMG" moments. We might be expecting too much of a menu catering for such a wide customer base II guess, but I kind of expected more. - Our villa 126 was fabulous, maybe needed a few touches of rejuvenation here and there. There were a number of loose / wobbly floorboards in the bar area, and the decking outside had begun to come apart a bit, only just avoided splinters a few times. These were minor niggles though in light of an overall really happy time!
