My wife and I chose SO/ Maldives to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary, and it proved to be the perfect destination for such a special occasion. We absolutely loved everything about our stay and would wholeheartedly recommend it to anyone seeking a luxurious and relaxing escape.
From the moment we arrived, we were impressed by the resort's cleanliness and how easily accessible everything was. We spent much of our time enjoying our stunning private villa, complete with its own pool and steps leading directly into the crystal-clear ocean. The villa was well-equipped for downtime too; the TV had multiple channels, but more usefully, allowed us to connect our own devices or cast content easily using the built-in Chromecast. Furthermore, the complimentary resort-wide Wi-Fi was excellent – strong enough for seamless video streaming with minimal buffering. (A helpful tip: if you rely on US-specific streaming apps, consider using a VPN, as some may not work internationally). Beyond the villa, exploring the resort's beautiful beach spots was a delight, surrounded by truly breathtaking clear turquoise waters.
A huge factor in making our stay so seamless and enjoyable was the exceptional staff. Our GEM, Sue, was outstanding from day one. She was incredibly pleasant, knowledgeable, and always readily available via WhatsApp to answer any questions we had throughout our stay. We also want to give a special mention to our housekeeper, Shivaz – he was absolutely FANTASTIC! We would leave our villa and return to find it immaculately clean, smelling fresh, and perfectly restocked with beverages and snacks. Shivaz even created a beautiful Happy Anniversary decoration on our bed using rose petals and palm branches – such a thoughtful and memorable touch! We felt incredibly lucky to have had him taking care of our villa. Generally, every staff member we encountered was genuinely nice and accommodating.
Our experience was further enhanced by some wonderful activities. We indulged in a couples massage, which was honestly one of the best massages either of us has ever had. The floating breakfast delivered to our villa pool was a unique and enjoyable experience, allowing us to savour delicious food while soaking up the morning sun. We also had a great time with the on-site photographer, who was fun to work with and captured many beautiful photos of us against the stunning island scenery, especially during sunset.
We loved the food choices available and highly recommend opting for the all-inclusive food and drinks package, as we did. While individual prices for meals and drinks are quite high, the package offers excellent value and saves a significant amount of money in the long run.
Our only minor suggestion relates to the provided bicycles, which are the main mode of transport around the island. While it was fun cycling around, the bikes could use some updating and more regular maintenance to keep them in top condition.
Overall, our 30th Anniversary trip to SO/ Maldives exceeded our expectations. It's a stunning resort with incredible service, modern amenities like great connectivity, delicious food, and staff who truly go the extra mile.
