Just had a 12 night stay in the 700 Jacuzzi water villas.
Arriving at Male about midday. We found the Crown and Champa desk and were directed to a cafe area where we waited about 30 minutes before being escorted across the road to a waiting boat. 50 minutes later we arrived at Meeru and were greeted by smiling members of staff drumming us into reception. Cold iced tea and a freezing cold facecloth was provided....Instant refreshment. We were taken through all the required information, (restaurants, bars, all inclusive package, excursions etc) by a friendly concierge. They informed us that our luggage would be waiting at our villa, and were offered a "taxi" to get ourselves there. We were literally next door to a bar, so we declined the offer and opted for a few snacks and cocktails to get the holiday going, we then walked along the beach to our home for the next 12 days. We were instantly in relaxation mode!
OK, lets talk about the water villa first. Wow!! Plenty of space, a huge bed, large bathroom, direct access to the ocean, and a veranda where we spend hours watching the marine life., A really good touch is a light that shines into the sea at night and attracts a whole manner of fish, rays, sharks etc. The mini bar is well stocked with small bottles of red/white/rose/ wine, beer, soft drinks, nuts, and a snickers, (if you both like snickers, you'll have to fight over it!). There is lots of wardrobe space and ample hangers. The Jacuzzi is a real decadent feature. We used it a couple of times. Sipping champagne being pampered by bubbles...who the hell do we think we are 😂😂.
The T.V has ample T.V channels including movies, but to be honest, we didn't watch much T.V, the island has far too much to offer! WiFi in the villa is more than adequate, so no issues there. We simply loved our Villa.
We used the Maalan buffet restaurant most nights. Anybody who says that there is a lack of choice is mad. Even after 12 nights, the food never got boring. There was everything from curries to Coq au vin, and just about anything in between. Live food stations dished up steak, fish, and seafood etc, there was usually a fresh pasta offering. My wife doesn't eat meat, and she was very well catered for. Don't get me started on desserts! A three kilo weight gain will tell you how much I enjoyed them.
What I really loved about the restaurant is that you are allocated a table, and that is where you eat the whole length of your stay. You get the same waiter, who gets to know your drinks, we found ourselves building a real rapport with him. Every meal from breakfast through to dinner was perfect.
We used the Asian Wok a couple of times. One of those occasions was my birthday. The table was decorated with flowers which was a lovely touch, and a delicious birthday cake was presented at the end of our meal. Depending what night you go, they have a Thai, Indonesian or Sri Lankan menu. We tried the Sri Lankan and Indonesian, and both were incredible! These guys know how to cook. We were seated by the window on both our visits, on one of the nights, we were treated to a firework display from the neighboring island to celebrate the muslim festival of Eid. It really made the night. Ambiance, service and food....Incredible.
Meeru really is the kind of place where you can be as active or inactive as you wish. We spent a lot of our time snorkeling which was really good. We loved going under the water villa where we would frequently see huge fish and rays. We used the adult pool a fair bit. You literally have to do nothing. Staff would always come up and ask if you wanted any drinks, it was a great place to spend a lazy day. We used the driving range and small golf course which was good fun. The sunset punch cruise was really nice, with loads of dolphins making an appearance. We also went on the free snorkeling trip which was good. We attended the Saturday night disco which was cheesy, but good fun...I haven't danced so much in years, I guess the Beach Iced teas can be blamed for that. They quickly became my favorite cocktail!😁😁❤.
The bars dotted around the island have something for everyone. We used the Uthuru bar a fair bit as it was adult only and nearest our villa. It has a really nice outside area where you can sit sipping a cold drink watching the sunset. Most nights has some sort of chilled live music happening. It's just a really nice relaxing bar! Our other bar of choice was the Pavilion bar. Really friendly staff, comfortable outdoor seating, and just a great spot to people watch. Talking of people watching, we found all the instagrammers hilarious....the lengths they go to to get the perfect shot. 😂😂😂. It gave us some good laughs. If you want to see my take on it, I have posted a video on the Meeru facebook page...Enjoy!😂😂😂
Finally, I have to mention the Duniye Spa. We used the one at the north end of the island. I was convinced that a couples massage experience was going to be a great experience by my wife. I am glad she did, as it was a unique experience. Being massaged and pampered whilst gazing into the clear waters of the Indian Ocean. The staff at the spa really know their stuff. I thoroughly recommend paying a visit here.
I have said a lot in this review, but really have only touched the surface, but to summarize, i would say;
Amazing, friendly staff, who seem to have a genuine desire to make your holiday special.
