About cookies and similar technologies

Islandii Ltd. (referred to in this Notice as “we” or “us”), similar technologies (together “cookies”). Cookies are small data files uploaded on your device when you visit a website or mobile app. Cookies allow a website or a mobile app to collect and store a range of data on your devices. Some cookies are essential, while others allow us to enhance your experience, personalize content and adverts across your devices, and provide insights into how our website and mobile apps are being used.

We use Session Cookies which will automatically expire at the end of your browser session on our website and mobile apps. These are generally used for security purposes or to facilitate your use of our website or mobile apps. For example, we use session cookies to analyze the traffic on our website and also to remember the content of your online shopping basket.

We may also use Persistent Cookies which will be stored for a longer period depending on the nature of their purpose. For example, persistent cookies are used to remember your preferences and choices when you use our website or for targeted advertising purposes.

We use Server-to-server tracking by generating and storing a unique identifier when you click a tracking link or are shown an advertisement. When you later make an action such as a website visit or a purchase, the unique identifier is matched. This allows us to monitor the effectiveness of our advertisement.

We might also use techniques such as pixels, which we don’t refer to as cookies because they don’t store information on your device. A pixel is an electronic file embedded into an email that allows us to see if the message was delivered, if and when you read it, and what you clicked on. We sometimes place these in marketing emails and newsletters. We use similar technology to get the same information about push notifications we send you, too.

How do we use cookies?

We use the following types of cookies for business and fundamental purposes that are essential to our Sites. Here’s why:

  • Certain cookies enable our Sites to function and can’t be switched off in our systems. You can’t decline these cookies because our Sites wouldn’t work as a result.
  • Cookies allow us to recognize and count the number of visitors, where they’ve come from, and track how visitors move around our Site when they’re using them. These also help to improve the way our Sites work (for example, by ensuring that you’re finding what you’re looking for easily). The data that’s stored in these cookies is collected and then aggregated and is therefore anonymous.
  • Cookies allow us to recognize you when you return to our Site. These cookies are only used to help improve your onsite experience by enabling us to personalize our content to you, greet you by your name and remember your preferences (for example, your choice of language or region).
  • To investigate and resolve complaints or issues on our Site, this may be due to a transaction, or a display error. In some instances, we may use the data from cookies to identify issues with our Site, either from complaints or diagnostics.
  • Review and test new functionality on our Site to make sure that it’s working properly.

How can I reject cookies and/or delete existing cookies?

Modern browsers allow you to change your cookie settings. You can set your browsers or devices to accept all cookies, notify you when a cookie is issued, or not to receive cookies at any time. The last of these means that certain personalized features cannot then be provided to you and accordingly you may not be able to take full advantage of all of the website’s features. Each browser is different, so check the ‘help’, ‘options’, or ‘preferences’ menu of your browser to learn how to change your cookie preferences. The following links provide more information on cookie settings for commonly used browsers: Cookie settings in Firefox; Cookie settings in Chrome; Cookie settings in Safari web and iOS.

You can also visit http://www.aboutcookies.org/ which contains comprehensive information on how to do this on a wide variety of browsers. This site includes details on how to delete cookies from your computer as well as more general information about cookies.

We do not recommend turning cookies off when visiting our websites as this could disadvantage you by preventing you from booking certain types of products and services. It may also mean that certain parts or functions of our websites do not work properly. Please also note that if you delete your cookies we may no longer automatically recognize your preferences, such as language and country preferences, any previous consent to terms and conditions, or any opt-outs.

In relation to advertising cookies, if you are in the EU you can use the YourOnlineChoices.eu website which allows you to set which advertising cookie providers you accept, and which you do not. You can manage cookies set by third parties by visiting the specific websites of these third parties. For example, all the data collected on you by Google can be accessed at myactivity.google.com.

Other tracking technologies

We use clear image files, pixel tags, and other similar technology embedded within emails we send to you and on our Platforms. These files are tiny graphics with a unique identifier, similar in function to cookies. In contrast to cookies, which are stored on your computer’s hard drive, clear images are embedded invisibly on web pages or in emails. We may use clear images (a.k.a. web beacons, web bugs, or pixel tags), in connection with the Platforms to, among other things, track the activities of Platform visitors, help us manage content, and compile statistics about usage of the Platforms. We and our third-party service providers also use clear images in HTML e-mails to our customers, to help us track e-mail response rates, identify when our e-mails are viewed, and track whether our e-mails are forwarded. We use aggregated statistics provided by third-party digital platforms about your interaction with us across multiple devices, such as your laptop and mobile, based on your log-ins into different services offered by these third parties. These statistics help us understand your journey across different devices and personalize the look and feel of our Platforms. These third parties also allow us to personalize our advertisements to you on your various devices on the basis of your behavior on one or more of your devices where you have logged into the relevant third party services.

Use of Google Analytics

This site uses Google Analytics, a web analytics service provided by Google, Inc. (“Google”). Google Analytics uses cookies, which are text files placed on your computer, to help the website analyze how users use the site. The information generated by the cookie about your use of the website (including your IP address) will be transmitted to and stored by Google on servers in the United States. In case of activation of the IP anonymization, Google will truncate/anonymize the last octet of the IP address for Member States of the European Union as well as for other parties to the Agreement on the European Economic Area. Only in exceptional cases, the full IP address is sent to and shortened by Google servers in the United States. On behalf of the website provider, Google will use this information for the purpose of evaluating your use of the website, compiling reports on website activity for website operators and providing other services relating to website activity and internet usage to the website provider. Google will not associate your IP address with any other data held by Google. You may refuse the use of cookies by selecting the appropriate settings on your browser. However, please note that if you do this, you may not be able to use the full functionality of this website. Furthermore, you can prevent Google’s collection and use of data (such as cookies and IP address) by downloading and installing the browser plug-in available under https://tools.google.com/dlpage/gaoptout/ . Further information concerning Google’s terms and conditions of use and data privacy can be found at http://www.google.com/analytics/terms/gb.html or at https://www.google.de/intl/en_uk/policies/. Please note that on this website, Google Analytics code is supplemented by “gat._anonymizeIp();” to ensure an anonymized collection of IP addresses (so-called IP-masking).

Islandii.com uses Google Analytics’s 1st party cookies with DoubleClick’s 3rd party cookies together to provide additional information on demographics and interests in our Google Analytics reporting.

We also use Google Analytics features based on Display Advertising (Google Analytics Demographics and Interest Reporting)
