Question 1

How do I get from the airport to Angsana Velavaru?

Accepted Answer

Angsana Velavaru is located in South Nilandhe (Dhaalu) Atoll. The transfer is a 40-45 minute seaplane from Velana International Airport, followed by a 5-minute speedboat ride to the island. Seaplanes operate during daylight hours. Luggage allowance on the seaplane is 20 kg checked plus 5 kg hand luggage per person. Payment for seaplane transfers is made at checkout, not upfront. Flight details must be shared with the resort before arrival. Tip: Pack light for the seaplane — the 20 kg limit is strictly enforced. Ship any excess luggage to Male in advance or leave it at a Male airport storage facility.

Question 2

What is the InOcean Villa concept and how is it different from the main island?

Accepted Answer

Angsana Velavaru has a unique two-part layout. The main island (Velavaru) has 79 beachfront villas. The InOcean Villas are a separate cluster of overwater villas built away from the main island, accessed by a short boat ride. The InOcean Villas sit above the house reef, are two storeys high, each has a private infinity pool, rooftop deck with shaded bed, and are considered one of the most private overwater villa concepts in the Maldives. The InOcean side has its own overwater restaurant and a small reception desk with boat service back to the main island at all times. Tip: Request an InOcean Villa if house reef snorkelling from your villa is a priority — the reef is directly accessible from the villa steps, which is not possible from the main island beach villas.

Question 3

Is there a house reef for snorkelling?

Accepted Answer

Yes, but access differs by villa type. Guests in InOcean Villas have direct reef access from their villa steps — the reef drop-off runs along the sunset side of the InOcean jetty and is considered good quality with turtles, sharks and diverse fish life. Guests in beach villas on the main island can access the reef via a complimentary daily guided snorkelling boat trip. Snorkelling from the main island beach requires swimming out to reach the reef, which is not immediately accessible from the shoreline. Tip: For the best reef snorkelling without a boat trip, book an InOcean Villa — the reef access from the villa is the standout feature of the overwater section and is what makes Angsana Velavaru a strong snorkelling destination.

Question 4

What room types are available?

Accepted Answer

The resort has 113 villas across two locations. On the main island: Beachfront Villas (no pool), Deluxe Beachfront Villas (with pool), Beach Pool Villas, Honeymoon Villas and Family Villas. In the InOcean cluster: InOcean Villas (two-storey, private infinity pool, rooftop deck) and Deluxe InOcean Villas. Children under 12 are not permitted in overwater (InOcean) accommodation. All InOcean villas have direct ocean access. Rooms are cleaned multiple times per day. Tip: Children under 12 must stay in beach villas on the main island. If you are travelling with young children, book Villa or Deluxe Beachfront Villa on the main island rather than an InOcean Villa.

Question 5

What all-inclusive plans are available?

Accepted Answer

Two plans are available. The standard All-Inclusive covers meals at the main restaurant, non-motorised water sports, selected drinks and activities. The All-Inclusive SELECT plan expands beverage selections, covers more dining outlets and includes additional activities. All guests on the same villa must be on the same meal plan. The Funa overwater Pan-Asian restaurant carries a surcharge under the standard plan. Tip: Upgrade to All-Inclusive SELECT if you plan to dine at Funa restaurant regularly — the surcharge for multiple visits under the standard plan adds up quickly.

Question 6

What is the whale shark snorkelling opportunity?

Accepted Answer

South Ari Atoll is the only location in the Maldives where whale sharks are present year-round, not just seasonally. Angsana Velavaru is positioned in Dhaalu Atoll with South Ari Atoll a short boat ride away, making whale shark excursions accessible throughout the year regardless of season. The whale shark excursion is a paid add-on at the resort. Tip: Book the whale shark excursion as soon as you arrive — sightings are not guaranteed and the opportunity to reschedule a missed encounter is easier with more days remaining in your stay.

Question 7

How is the food?

Accepted Answer

The resort has three dining venues. The main restaurant serves international buffet-style food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Azzurro is an overwater Italian restaurant. Funa is an overwater Pan-Asian restaurant (charged separately under the standard all-inclusive plan). The poolside Kuredhi Bar serves drinks and snacks. Dietary requirements including vegetarian and vegan preferences are accommodated with advance notice. The buffet is noted for variety and quality at this price point. Tip: Inform the resort of any dietary requirements at least one week before arrival — special menus and ingredient substitutions require kitchen preparation time.

Question 8

What is the Rangers Kids Club like?

Accepted Answer

The Rangers Kids Club is complimentary for children aged 4-11 and operates daily from 10:00 to 18:00. It has indoor and outdoor play areas and a dedicated kids pool. Activities include marine conservation programmes, sand castle building, wall climbing, treasure hunts, arts and crafts. After-hours babysitting is available at approximately USD 35 per hour. Children under 4 require a babysitter to attend during club hours. The kids club is on the main island only. Tip: Book babysitting for at least two evenings in advance so you can attend Azzurro or Funa for dinner without children — the evening restaurants are best enjoyed without time pressure.

Question 9

What activities are available?

Accepted Answer

Water activities: snorkelling, scuba diving at a PADI 5-star Gold Dive Centre, whale shark excursions, kayaking, glass-bottom kayaking, paddleboarding, windsurfing, wakeboarding, catamaran sailing, jet skiing, banana boat, dolphin watching, night fishing, stingray feeding. Land activities: fitness centre, yoga, coral planting at the marine centre (complimentary), lovebird feeding twice daily, beach movie nights, live DJ nights, Boduberu cultural performances and karaoke. Non-motorised water sports are included in the all-inclusive plan. Tip: The coral planting session at the marine centre is complimentary and takes approximately 30 minutes — it is one of the more meaningful activities on the island and is available to all guests without booking.

Question 10

How is the spa?

Accepted Answer

The Angsana Spa offers massage therapies, aromatherapy, facials and body treatments. The Angsana brand spa is known for its diverse massage technique menu. Treatments are not included in the standard all-inclusive plan and must be booked in advance. The spa facilities are on the main island. Tip: Book spa treatments for the mid-morning slot (10-11 AM) when the spa is least busy — peak demand is late afternoon and early evening, and availability on popular treatment days can be limited.

Question 11

How is the Wi-Fi?

Accepted Answer

Free Wi-Fi is available throughout the resort, including in the InOcean Villas. The connection is generally functional for messaging and browsing. The remote Dhaalu Atoll location means satellite-based internet with lower speeds than Male-proximate resorts. Tip: Download any streaming content, maps and work files before boarding the seaplane — connectivity in Dhaalu Atoll is noticeably slower than in resorts near Male.

Question 12

Are there insects or pests on the island?

Accepted Answer

As with any tropical island, insects are present on Velavaru. Ants and cockroaches have been reported in rooms during certain periods, particularly in the main island beach villas during rainy season. The resort takes pest management measures. InOcean Villas, being overwater, are generally less affected by land-based insects. Tip: If insects are a concern, request an InOcean Villa — the overwater positioning significantly reduces exposure to land-based insects compared to the garden-surrounded beach villas on the main island.

Question 13

What is the evening entertainment like?

Accepted Answer

The Kuredhi Pool Bar near the main beach hosts nightly entertainment rotating between live DJ nights, Boduberu cultural shows (traditional Maldivian drumming and dance) and beach movie nights. Karaoke is available on selected evenings. The InOcean side has its own overwater bar and restaurant for a quieter evening atmosphere. Tip: The Boduberu show nights are the most culturally distinctive evening event at the resort — check the weekly schedule on arrival and plan dinner timing accordingly.

Question 14

What are the main pros of staying at Angsana Velavaru?

Accepted Answer

Unique InOcean Villa concept: the only standalone overwater villa cluster in the Maldives, positioned directly above the house reef with complete separation from the main island. Year-round whale shark access: South Ari Atoll proximity means whale shark excursions are available in every month, not just seasonally. Two distinct experiences in one booking: main island beach villas and InOcean overwater villas offer completely different characters within the same resort. PADI 5-star Gold Dive Centre: one of the strongest dive operations in Dhaalu Atoll. Family-friendly with no compromise on couples: kids club, family villas and babysitting coexist with adult-only InOcean Villas. Complimentary non-motorised water sports: paddleboards, kayaks and glass-bottom kayaks included in the all-inclusive plan. Coral planting programme: a complimentary hands-on conservation activity not found at all resorts. Year-round lovebird feeding: a charming and distinctly Velavaru daily activity. All-inclusive format: eliminates per-drink and per-activity billing anxiety common at non-AI resorts. Tip: A stay combining both villa types — two or three nights in a beach villa and two nights in an InOcean Villa — gives the most complete experience of the resort without committing to a single accommodation style for the full stay.

Question 15

Is the resort suitable for honeymooners?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Angsana Velavaru is positioned as a strong honeymoon destination. Honeymoon benefits are available for stays from the first anniversary of the wedding date: stays of 3+ nights include a bottle of house wine, fruit platter and romantic bed turndown; stays of 5+ nights add an in-villa breakfast once during the stay. A marriage certificate is required at check-in. The InOcean Villas with private infinity pools and rooftop decks are the most-requested honeymoon accommodation. Private dining setups and sunset cruises are available. Tip: Book an InOcean Villa for a honeymoon rather than a beach villa — the privacy, rooftop deck and direct reef access create a more immersive and romantic experience than the main island beach accommodation.
