Question 1

How do I get from the airport to SO Maldives?

Accepted Answer

SO Maldives is located at the CROSSROADS Maldives development in Emboodhoo Lagoon, approximately 15 minutes by speedboat from Velana International Airport. No seaplane is required — the speedboat operates 24 hours a day, accommodating any international flight arrival time without daylight restrictions. This is one of the most practical transfer combinations in the Maldives: a 15-minute speedboat, no seaplane fees and no scheduling complexity. The airport team is praised as good — guests are met at the airport, the transfer is smooth and fast. Experience Maker (the SO name for a personal butler) is assigned from the moment of arrival. Children under 4 stay free. Children under 12 cannot stay in overwater accommodation. Check-out is not permitted on 31 December. Tip: Arrive at any time regardless of international flight schedule — the 24-hour speedboat with no daylight restriction is one of the most practical advantages of SO Maldives for guests with early morning or late-night flights. The 15-minute journey means the island and villa are accessible within 30 minutes of landing at Male.

Question 2

What is the house reef and snorkelling situation at SO Maldives?

Accepted Answer

SO Maldives is built on a man-made island within Emboodhoo Lagoon, so the house reef is limited compared to natural Maldivian islands. baby reef sharks, stingrays, eagle rays and nurse sharks in the lagoon — the calm shallow waters make it accessible for beginners. For serious snorkelling and diving, guided excursions to South Male Atoll outer reefs are the better option. The CROSSROADS Marine Discovery Centre adds an educational dimension with coral propagation and marine biology exhibits. Lagoon Water Pool Villas are positioned closer to the coral reefs and face north — these are noted as having the best reef proximity of the villa types. The Best Dives centre (PADI 5-Star IDC) operates curated excursions to stronger dive sites within 20-40 minutes. Turtle expeditions, outer reef explorations and traditional Maldivian fishing excursions are offered. Tip: Book a Lagoon Water Pool Villa rather than an Ocean Water Pool Villa if reef proximity is a priority — these villas face north and are specifically positioned closer to the coral reefs. For the most vibrant snorkelling, book the guided outer reef excursion on arrival day as this is the better option for serious marine encounters.

Question 3

Accepted Answer

Question 8

What is the best time of year to visit?

Accepted Answer

South Male Atoll (Emboodhoo Lagoon) follows the standard Maldives seasonal pattern. The dry northeast monsoon from November to April provides the most reliable sunshine, calmest seas and best visibility. The wet season from May to October brings occasional rain and stronger winds, lower rates and fewer guests. The 15-minute speedboat operates 24 hours without seasonal constraints. The resort opened November 2023 — post-2024 accounts reflect the resort operating at full maturity. Wet season visits are specifically attractive given SO Maldives' limited house reef — the outer reef excursions (the primary marine activity) are available year-round. Tip: Consider the wet season (May to October) specifically for SO Maldives — the limited house reef means the primary marine encounters come from boat excursions which operate year-round, and the lower rates during wet season make the all-inclusive value proposition strongest. The speedboat removes all weather-related transfer timing concerns.
