Question 1

How do I get from the airport to Lily Beach Resort and Spa?

Accepted Answer

Lily Beach Resort and Spa is located on Huvahendhoo Island in South Ari Atoll (South East Ari Atoll), approximately 80 km from Velana International Airport. Two transfer options are available. Option 1: a 25-minute seaplane from Male airport, followed by a 10-minute speedboat — seaplanes operate during daylight hours with an airport lounge provided for guests. Option 2: a 20-minute domestic flight to Maamigli International Airport followed by a speedboat. The Lily Hotels Lounge at Velana International Airport provides a warm welcome with hospitality before the seaplane departure. The island is approximately 600 metres long and 110 metres wide. Lily Beach celebrated its 30th anniversary in November 2024 — one of the longest-established 5-star resorts in the Maldives. Tip: Allow at least 90 minutes between international flight arrival and the seaplane departure slot — the Lily Hotels Lounge at the airport is a comfortable waiting area, but the seaplane check-in and the transfer to the seaplane terminal require time that late international arrivals may not have.

Question 2

What is the Platinum Plan and why is it considered the Maldives' leading all-inclusive?

Accepted Answer

The Platinum Plan at Lily Beach is the Maldives' original 5-star all-inclusive — Lily Beach pioneered the 5-star AI format in the Maldives and has held the World Travel Awards Maldives Leading All-Inclusive Resort title in 2024 and 2025. Inclusions: all meals across four restaurants with full dine-around access, 80 premium wines from around the world, Taittinger Champagne by the glass, 20 European cheeses, premium spirits and cocktails, minibar, in-villa dining, all non-motorised water sports, guided snorkelling excursions, one free sunset fishing per stay, one excursion to an uninhabited island per stay, kids club access, Turtle Kids Club, and the Wine Spectator Award-winning wine programme. The wine programme specifically — Taittinger Champagne by the glass and 80 premium wines — is the most cited differentiator from other Maldives AI resorts. One child aged 11 and under stays free on a daybed with AI meals and non-alcoholic drinks. Tip: The wine list at Lily Beach under the Platinum Plan is genuinely exceptional — the sommelier team can be asked for specific recommendations from the 80-label list, and the cheese board of 20 European cheeses pairs best when combined with a sommelier consultation rather than a self-selection approach.

Question 3

What is the house reef and why is Lily Beach positioned in one of the Maldives' best diving regions?

Accepted Answer

The house reef at Lily Beach is one of the resort's most celebrated features. The reef lies 10-20 metres from the beach and encircles the island — on both the east and west sides given the island's narrow east-west orientation in the channel. In moderate tidal conditions, snorkellers can drift directly over the coral tops. The nearby South Ari Marine Protected Area (SAMPA) is one of the Maldives' most productive marine zones for whale sharks, manta rays and pelagic encounters. Diving from Lily Beach with Prodivers accesses eight channels north and south of the island. The winter season (November to April) brings manta rays from the south, and whale sharks are encountered year-round in the SAMPA. The uninhabited island Theluveligaa — provided as a free Platinum Plan excursion — has massive table corals on its house reef. Tip: Book the whale shark excursion through Prodivers early in the stay — South Ari Atoll has resident whale sharks in the SAMPA year-round, but excursion slots fill quickly and weather can affect scheduling. Early booking gives the best chance of completing the excursion on a preferred day.

Question 4

Which villa types do guests most frequently mention and praise?

Accepted Answer

119 villas across nine categories. Beach Villas (57 units): nestled within the island vegetation directly on the beach — praised for the natural garden setting and beach access. Six sets of two interconnecting Beach Villas are available for families and groups, equipped with connecting doors and allowing twin or queen configurations. Beach Pool Villas: beach position with private pools. Sunrise Water Villas (overwater): direct access to the lagoon with sunrise orientation — praised by those who specifically want morning light and immediate snorkelling. Sunset Water Suite with Pool: the premium overwater category with a private pool and west-facing sunset views — the most-requested category for honeymooners and couples. An Overwater Deluxe Water Villa category sits between the basic overwater and the Sunset Pool category. Water villas have direct access to snorkelling, and the house reef from these positions is the strongest snorkelling entry on the island. The recommendation for families is specifically beach villas over overwater for children. Tip: Book a Sunset Water Suite with Pool for the most complete overwater experience — the private pool above the lagoon at sunset, combined with the direct snorkelling access and the Platinum Plan wine service delivered to the villa, is the combination that guests most consistently describe as the defining daily luxury of a Lily Beach stay.

Question 5

What restaurants are available under the Platinum Plan?

Accepted Answer

Four restaurants and four bars serve the island, all included under the Platinum Plan dine-around. Lily Maa is the main international buffet restaurant with live cooking stations and themed evenings — highly praised for variety and freshness. Tamarind is the elegant overwater a la carte restaurant serving Indian and Thai fusion cuisine — the most atmospheric and specifically-praised specialty dining venue. AQVA is the interactive teppanyaki restaurant with lagoon views. Les Turquoise d'Aqua is the exclusive fine dining restaurant with curated wine pairings — Wine Spectator Award 2024. The Platinum Plan includes a complimentary specialty dinner at Tamarind once per stay. Guest chefs from Michelin-star backgrounds have visited — Chef Igles Corelli, Chef Bruno Menard (3 Michelin stars, Valentine's Day visit) — for exclusive culinary events. Tip: Reserve Tamarind for the complimentary Platinum Plan dinner on a mid-stay evening rather than the first or last night — first evenings benefit from settling in and last evenings have transfer time pressure. The overwater Indian-Thai fusion menu at Tamarind in the lagoon setting is the most consistently praised individual meal experience at the resort.

Question 6

What is the South Ari Marine Protected Area and what whale shark access does it provide?

Accepted Answer

The South Ari Marine Protected Area (SAMPA) is a government-designated conservation zone in South Ari Atoll specifically created to protect whale shark populations. SAMPA is one of the few places in the world where whale shark encounters are genuinely year-round — resident whale sharks are present regardless of season, rather than appearing only during seasonal feeding events. Lily Beach is positioned in the heart of South Ari Atoll with direct access to SAMPA excursions through Prodivers. Diving in this area also produces world-class thila and kandu dives north and south of the island. Manta rays are encountered seasonally (November to April from the south). The Theluveligaa uninhabited island excursion (included free in the Platinum Plan) has an exceptional house reef with massive table corals. Tip: Ask Prodivers about the current SAMPA whale shark probability conditions on arrival — the team monitors the feeding areas and can provide the most accurate current information about encounter probability, the best time of day for excursions and the current whale shark locations within the protected area.

Question 7

What are the diving options with Prodivers?

Accepted Answer

Prodivers operates the dive centre at Lily Beach — the same team operating at Kuredu in Lhaviyani Atoll and at other top Maldives resorts. Eight channels are accessible from the island, north and south, providing varied diving terrain including channel drift dives, thalas and kandus with excellent pelagic and reef life. World-class sites include kandus to the north and south with manta rays in season. Scuba diving is available for all levels from beginner to advanced. A free snorkelling excursion to the Theluveligaa uninhabited island house reef (with massive table corals) is included under the Platinum Plan. An additional free sunset fishing excursion is also included. Tip: Combine the Platinum Plan's free snorkelling excursion to Theluveligaa with a diving session at one of the channel sites on the same day — the massive table corals at Theluveligaa provide a different visual dimension from the main house reef, and pairing them with a channel dive produces one of the most varied single-day marine experiences available from Lily Beach.

Question 8

What is the child policy and the Turtle Kids Club?

Accepted Answer

Children of all ages are welcome. One child aged 11 and under stays free of charge on a daybed with all-inclusive meals (non-alcoholic drinks) and access to the Turtle Kids Club — Green Tax and Male transfers still apply for children. Additional children are charged. Beach villas are recommended for families with children — water villas are accessible but the beach villa setting is more practical for families. The Turtle Kids Club provides supervised activities. Interconnecting Beach Villas (six sets of two) accommodate families conveniently with connecting doors and flexible bed configurations. Babysitting is available at an additional charge. Tip: Confirm which child categories qualify for the free-stay offer at booking — the one-child-free policy applies under specific package terms including the daybed sleeping arrangement, and confirming the exact conditions prevents ambiguity at check-in. Additional children beyond the first free child carry charges that should be included in budget planning.

Question 9

What are the honeymoon and romantic offerings?

Accepted Answer

Lily Beach offers a dedicated honeymoon package: complimentary sparkling wine, a floating breakfast for Pool Villas (or in-villa dining for non-pool villas), 20% off return transfers, 15% off couples' spa treatments and additional personal touches. The Sunset Water Suite with Pool is the most-requested honeymoon accommodation. Tamarind overwater restaurant, the Platinum Plan wine programme (Taittinger Champagne by the glass), the Lily Maa beach buffet with lagoon views at night, and the overwater spa are the most-cited honeymoon dining and wellness experiences. Private candlelit beach dinners and villa decoration are arranged through the team. Tip: Book the Island Romance Escape package if available for your travel dates — this package bundles the honeymoon inclusions with additional dining credits and transfer discounts, and the Lily Beach team prepares the full welcome programme before the speedboat arrives at the island jetty when notified in advance.

Question 10

What is the best time of year to visit?

Accepted Answer

South Ari Atoll follows the standard Maldives seasonal pattern. The dry northeast monsoon from December to April provides the most reliable sunshine, calmest seas and best visibility. The wet season from May to October brings occasional rain and stronger winds, lower rates and fewer guests. Manta rays are most reliably encountered from November to April. SAMPA whale sharks are present year-round. The island's east-west orientation in the channel means snorkelling is available on both sides and tidal drift is productive in both directions. The Platinum Plan value is the same in all seasons — the included wine and dining programme does not change by season. Tip: A December or January visit combines the start of the dry season, peak manta ray season, year-round whale sharks and the holiday atmosphere — book 4-6 months ahead for December as it is peak demand and the Sunset Water Suites with Pool are the first category to fill.

Question 11

What are the main pros of staying at Lily Beach Resort and Spa?

Accepted Answer

Maldives' original 5-star all-inclusive: Lily Beach pioneered the AI format in the Maldives and holds the World Travel Awards Maldives Leading All-Inclusive Resort 2024 and 2025 title. Platinum Plan wine programme: Taittinger Champagne by the glass, 80 premium wines, 20 European cheeses — the most comprehensive AI beverage programme in the Maldives. South Ari Marine Protected Area proximity: year-round resident whale sharks and world-class manta ray, thila and kandu diving. 360-degree house reef 10-20 metres from the beach: accessible from both sides of the island with drift snorkelling over the coral tops. Free excursions included in Platinum Plan: sunset fishing, uninhabited island snorkelling at Theluveligaa — tangible value inclusions. Tamarind overwater Indian-Thai fusion restaurant: the most atmospheric specialty dining venue in South Ari Atoll. Wine Spectator Award 2024: independently recognised wine programme quality. Michelin-star guest chef residencies: Chef Bruno Menard (3 Michelin stars) among recent visitors. Tip: The beach villas at Lily Beach have been noted as potentially due for refurbishment in some areas — those who prioritise the absolute latest in villa design and contemporary finishes should factor this into their comparison. The water villas and the Platinum Plan wine programme are consistently the two most praised elements of the resort.

Question 12

How does Lily Beach compare to other South Ari Atoll resorts?

Accepted Answer

South Ari Atoll has multiple luxury resorts including Constance Moofushi, Coco Bodu Hithi, Dhawa Ihuru and others. Lily Beach distinguishes itself through the Platinum Plan wine programme (Taittinger by the glass, 80 wines, 20 European cheeses), the World Travel Awards Maldives Leading AI title 2024 and 2025, its position within SAMPA for year-round whale shark access and its 30-year operating history. Compared to sister property Hideaway Beach Resort and Spa (Haa Alifu Atoll), Lily Beach provides better South Ari marine access and the Platinum Plan wine programme. Hideaway has the Maldives first marina, the MERIDIS freediving programme and the World Travel Awards Leading Honeymoon Resort title. Tip: For guests choosing between Lily Beach and other South Ari Atoll AI resorts: the Platinum Plan wine and champagne programme is the most decisive differentiator — Taittinger by the glass and 80 premium wines within an AI format is not matched by any comparable AI property in the atoll, and for those who enjoy wine, this single feature justifies the choice.
