Question 1

How do I get from the airport to JOALI BEING?

Accepted Answer

JOALI BEING is located on Bodufushi Island in Raa Atoll. Two transfer options are available. Option 1: a 40-minute seaplane from Velana International Airport, available during daylight hours only. JOALI hosts meet guests at the airport arrival hall and escort them to the private JOALI Lounge — the same lounge serves both JOALI properties. International flight details must be provided at least 7 days before arrival. Flight schedules are confirmed by the seaplane operator one day in advance. Option 2: a 30-minute domestic flight from Velana International Airport to Ifuru Domestic Airport followed by a 25-minute speedboat to JOALI BEING. A private seaplane charter accommodates up to 8 guests. The two JOALI properties are 15 minutes apart by private boat. Tip: Share international flight details with JOALI BEING at least 7 days before arrival — the resort notes that flight schedules are only confirmed by the seaplane operator one day in advance, and early notification allows the team to prepare contingency arrangements for any delays.

Question 2

What is the 'Joy of Weightlessness' philosophy and how does it shape the stay?

Accepted Answer

JOALI BEING's defining philosophy is the pursuit of Weightlessness — a state of energy, freedom, lightness and wonder described as the felt result of the resort's wellness programme. The philosophy is translated practically through four Pillars: Mind, Skin, Microbiome and Energy. Arriving guests pass through the Gate of Zero, a sculptural installation inspired by the graceful swirl of whirling dervishes, which signals the beginning of the transformation journey. Each guest receives a personalised wellbeing consultation on arrival that shapes every aspect of the stay — treatment recommendations, dietary guidance and activity scheduling. The resort is built according to biophilic design principles — no trees were felled in its construction, the wooded island interior remains untouched, and all spaces are designed to enhance the energy flow of the natural landscape. Tip: Schedule the personalised wellbeing consultation for the first day of arrival rather than waiting — the consultation shapes the entire programme and the earlier it happens, the more days of tailored activity, treatment and dietary guidance are available during the stay.

Question 3

What are the Four Pillars and what does each involve?

Accepted Answer

The four Pillars of JOALI BEING structure the wellness programme. Mind: meditation, sound healing on a dedicated Sound Therapy Path, anti-gravity yoga in the pavilion, yoga studio, library and mindfulness practices. Skin: advanced aesthetic treatments, specialised facials and skin analysis at the IASO Medical Spa approach — evidence-based treatments combining dermatological science with traditional wellness. Microbiome: nutrition coaching, gut health programmes, Earth-to-Table cuisine with specific dietary tracking, the Plantae vegetarian kitchen and the Su pescatarian kitchen within the FLOW restaurant. Energy: movement studio, the largest gym in the Maldives, CrossFit and fitness classes at the Core facility, hydrotherapy hall, sensory deprivation room, Russian banya, salt inhalation room and podologist centre. Expert practitioners oversee each Pillar — the team combines traditional therapists, medical professionals and movement coaches. Tip: Identify the Pillar most relevant to a personal wellness goal before arrival and use the consultation to build the programme around it — those who arrive with a specific intention (skin health, gut reset, movement restoration) produce more transformative outcomes than those who approach the programme without a focus.

Question 4

Which villas do guests most frequently praise — Beach or Ocean Villa?

Accepted Answer

68 villas and residences, all with private pools and Jadugar butler service. Every villa includes a Wellbeing Bar (personalised wellness provisions), a BOSE sound system, meditative balancing instruments, tea and coffee making facilities, outdoor rain shower, customised minibar and JOALI toiletries including after-sun, body lotion and insect repellent. Beach Villas with Pool: direct beach access with pool and garden setting. Ocean Villas with Pool: overwater with private pool and direct sea access from the villa steps. The house reef is described by one group of experienced Maldives guests as the best they have encountered across many visits — turtles, eagle rays, vast shoals of vibrant fish in front of the Ocean Villa positions. Flagship multi-bedroom residences: a 491 sqm four-bedroom overwater residence with a wellbeing room and movement room; a 345 sqm three-bedroom beach residence with an infinity pool and movement zone. describe the Ocean Villa overwater snorkelling access as the most vividly memorable daily experience. Tip: Book an Ocean Villa for the most direct reef access from the villa steps — snorkelling directly from the overwater position as producing the most spontaneous and rewarding marine encounters, with the resident turtle and eagle rays reliably present near the villa positions.

Question 5

How is the house reef at JOALI BEING and how does it compare to JOALI Maldives?

Accepted Answer

The house reef at JOALI BEING is genuinely productive — among the most rewarding available at either JOALI property. Guests with extensive Maldives experience describe it as one of the best they have encountered. Marine life includes a large resident turtle, eagle rays, vast shoals of tropical fish, anemones and moray eels. JOALI BEING partners with the Reef Restoration Project and maintains a coral nursery that is one of only three turtle conservation sanctuaries in the Maldives. A resident marine biologist leads guided reef excursions and explains the conservation work. Coral coverage is noted as mixed — one account describes healthy shoals and abundant fish while noting that coral density is lower than pre-bleaching levels. The Raa Atoll Turtle Care Centre in collaboration with the Olive Ridley Project provides veterinary care for injured sea turtles, with guest observation and participation available. Tip: Visit the turtle care centre operated in collaboration with the Olive Ridley Project during the stay — observing turtle rehabilitation and learning about the specific conservation challenges facing sea turtles in Raa Atoll provides the most direct emotional connection to the marine environment the resort works to protect.

Question 6

What dining is available and how does the food philosophy work?

Accepted Answer

Four dining venues serve the island. FLOW is the main dining space with three distinct kitchens: Plantae (vegetarian and plant-based cuisine), Su (ocean-to-table pescatarian, featuring locally caught seafood), and B'Well (the JOALI BEING signature menu of earth-to-table wellness dishes). Yutori is the Japanese restaurant opened in 2024 and conceptualised by Michelin-acclaimed chef Hidemasa Yamamoto — described as a tranquil overwater sanctuary embodying wellbeing in daily life. Mojo is the tropical beach bar and sundowner spot on a three-layered sundeck. Sai is the tea lounge with an extensive range of teas, tea ceremonies and educational sessions led by the resident tea sommelier. All food is sourced with ingredient traceability — fresh, organic and locally harvested wherever possible. In-villa dining delivers earth-to-table dishes and wellness smoothies to the villa door. Tip: Visit Sai tea lounge and book a guided tea ceremony session — the resident tea sommelier's sessions provide an educational dimension to the tea culture that is specific to JOALI BEING and is not replicated at any other Maldives resort. The tea ceremony works particularly well as a morning or post-treatment activity.

Question 7

What are the wellness facilities and what makes them distinctive?

Accepted Answer

The wellbeing facilities at JOALI BEING represent one of the most comprehensive wellness infrastructure sets at any Maldives resort. The Core fitness centre with private training rooms is the largest gym in the Maldives. The hydrotherapy hall includes a sensory deprivation room, Russian banya, salt inhalation room and cold plunge. An over-water meditation deck and yoga studio provide dedicated movement spaces. A sound therapy path is built into the island landscape. An anti-gravity yoga pavilion offers suspended yoga practice. A podologist centre addresses foot health — unusual at a resort spa. The ESPA spa has multiple treatment rooms. An herbology centre provides plant medicine education. Spa treatments are not inexpensive — a single massage starts from approximately USD 400 — and this should be factored into the total stay budget. Tip: Plan a spa budget before arrival and factor it separately from the villa and meal costs — JOALI BEING spa treatments start at approximately USD 400 per session, which is high even by Maldives luxury standards. Planning 2-3 treatments across a 7-night stay as a pre-agreed budget prevents checkout shock.

Question 8

What activities are available beyond wellness?

Accepted Answer

Water: snorkelling with the marine biologist, guided reef exploration, kayaking, paddleboarding, catamaran sailing, diving excursions through the PADI centre. Land: tennis, anti-gravity yoga, sound therapy, movement classes (CrossFit, yoga, Pilates), culinary arts centre workshops. Cultural: tea ceremonies at Sai, reef restoration participation, turtle care centre visits. Children: B'Kidult multigenerational zone (designed for children and adults together rather than as a traditional kids club — the JOALI BEING philosophy positions wellbeing as experience). A daily boat to JOALI Maldives departs at 11:00 and returns at 15:00, allowing a half-day visit to the sister property. Tip: If combining JOALI BEING with a visit to JOALI Maldives: take the scheduled daily boat on a mid-stay day to explore the art-immersive identity of the sister island, enjoy lunch at Allegra or Saoke, and return on the 15:00 boat.

Question 9

What are the MICHELIN and Forbes credentials?

Accepted Answer

JOALI BEING holds Two MICHELIN Keys in the 2025 MICHELIN Guide — the higher of the two possible MICHELIN Key designations, reflecting exceptional hospitality and experiences across the full stay. Forbes Travel Guide Five-Star status has been awarded for four consecutive years. These dual recognitions place JOALI BEING among the most independently verified luxury wellness resorts in the world. The MICHELIN Key standard assesses not just individual restaurants but the total hospitality experience — accommodation, service, dining and activities together — making it a more comprehensive quality signal than a restaurant MICHELIN Star. Tip: The Two MICHELIN Keys is a higher recognition than One MICHELIN Key held by sister resort JOALI Maldives — the wellness programme, the Yutori restaurant, the Four Pillars framework and the overall hospitality integration are the specific differentiators that MICHELIN assessed in awarding the second Key.

Question 10

What is the child and family policy?

Accepted Answer

Children of all ages are welcome. JOALI BEING positions itself as a multigenerational resort — the B'Kidult zone is designed for children and adults together rather than as a traditional supervised kids club. The philosophy is that wellness and play are not separate activities for different ages. Guests under 18 can only check in with a parent or official guardian. Villa residences accommodate larger multigenerational groups. The Raa Atoll Turtle Care Centre provides one of the most engaging and educational conservation experiences available for children at any Maldives resort. The tea lounge sessions and culinary arts workshops are accessible to older children. The marine biologist-led reef experiences are suitable for all ages who can swim. Tip: Introduce children to the turtle care centre on the second day — the Olive Ridley Project sea turtle rehabilitation facility is one of only three in the Maldives and the observation of turtle care combined with the marine biologist's explanation provides an educational impact that children specifically retain as their most vivid memory of the stay.

Question 11

What is the best time of year to visit?

Accepted Answer

Raa Atoll follows the standard Maldives seasonal pattern. The dry northeast monsoon from November to April brings the most reliable sunshine, calmest seas and best diving and snorkelling visibility. The wet season from May to October brings occasional rain and stronger winds but also the peak season for manta ray encounters in the atoll. The wellness programme is available and fully staffed year-round. The turtle care centre operates year-round. The biophilic island design with its shaded wooded interior provides year-round comfort that is less weather-dependent than open beach resorts. Peak demand requires 4+ months advance booking. Tip: The wellness programme benefits from a minimum stay of 7 nights — shorter stays produce an incomplete transformation journey across the Four Pillars. The resort's own recommendation for meaningful programme outcomes starts at 7 nights, and the pricing reflects this — budget accordingly.

Question 12

What are the main pros of staying at JOALI BEING?

Accepted Answer

Two MICHELIN Keys (2025) and Forbes Five-Star for 4 consecutive years: the dual highest-quality recognition available to a Maldives wellness resort. Four Pillars framework (Mind, Skin, Microbiome, Energy): the most systematically comprehensive wellness programme at any Maldives resort. Largest gym in the Maldives: the Core fitness centre with private training rooms and multiple movement disciplines. Yutori Japanese restaurant by Michelin-acclaimed chef Hidemasa Yamamoto: fine dining quality within a wellness context. Raa Atoll Turtle Care Centre (Olive Ridley Project): one of only three in the Maldives — guest participation in turtle rehabilitation. Sensory deprivation room, Russian banya, salt inhalation room, sound therapy path: a breadth of therapeutic environment types found at no comparable Maldives property. Ocean Villa house reef with resident turtle and eagle rays: one of the more productive reef positions at either JOALI property. Biophilic design with untouched wooded island interior: no trees felled in construction — a structural sustainability commitment. Tea lounge Sai with resident tea sommelier: tea ceremony as a daily wellness ritual — unique in the Maldives.

Question 13

What meal plans are available and how does dining work?

Accepted Answer

JOALI BEING does not operate an all-inclusive plan. Room rates are on a bed-and-breakfast or room-only basis, with dining charged separately at the four venues. The Earth-to-Table philosophy means that every dish is sourced with ingredient traceability — menus change based on what is locally available and sustainably harvested. In-villa dining delivers wellness dishes and smoothies to the villa door at an additional charge. The Yutori Japanese restaurant by Michelin-acclaimed chef Hidemasa Yamamoto is a premium a la carte experience. Sai tea lounge tea ceremony sessions may carry a charge for premium teas or educational formats. The wellbeing consultation provided on arrival shapes dietary recommendations across all venues. Tip: Discuss dietary recommendations with the wellbeing consultant on arrival and share these with the dining team — the kitchen at JOALI BEING can adapt dishes across all three FLOW kitchens to support Microbiome or Energy pillar programmes, and this level of customisation is not available at most Maldives dining venues.

Question 14

How does JOALI BEING compare to other Maldives wellness resorts?

Accepted Answer

JOALI BEING holds Two MICHELIN Keys — the highest MICHELIN Key designation in the Maldives — and Forbes Five-Star for four consecutive years. It is positioned as the most comprehensively wellness-integrated resort in the Maldives. Compared to Heritance Aarah (also wellness-positioned, Raa Atoll, LEED Gold), JOALI BEING has deeper programme integration with the Four Pillars framework, the largest gym in the Maldives and the Yutori Japanese restaurant. Heritance Aarah has LEED Gold certification and dive excursions included in the AI plan. Compared to Anantara Kihavah (Baa Atoll), JOALI BEING has a more comprehensive wellness infrastructure but Anantara Kihavah has stronger marine access and the Sea, Fire, Earth, Sky four-environment dining concept. JOALI BEING is the clearest choice for guests whose primary goal is a transformative wellness experience with biophilic design and the Four Pillars framework. Tip: If choosing between JOALI BEING and other Maldives wellness options, the Two MICHELIN Keys and the Four Pillars programme depth are the most decisive differentiators — the MICHELIN assessment covers the total hospitality experience, not just the restaurant, making it the most comprehensive quality signal available.

Question 15

Is the resort suitable for honeymooners?

Accepted Answer

Yes. JOALI BEING is a popular honeymoon destination, particularly for couples who want wellness and transformation as the core of the honeymoon experience rather than a purely social and beach-oriented stay. Ocean Villas with private pools above the lagoon and the reef access from the villa steps are the most-requested honeymoon accommodation. A dedicated honeymoon package is available — confirm current inclusions with the resort at booking. Yutori Japanese restaurant for a private overwater dinner and couple wellness treatments at the ESPA spa are the most-cited honeymoon additions. The Gate of Zero arrival experience sets a deliberately ceremonial tone for the beginning of the stay that honeymooners describe as uniquely moving. Tip: Book the Yutori Japanese restaurant for the honeymoon celebratory dinner and arrange it at the same time as the villa booking — the overwater setting and the Michelin-acclaimed culinary concept together create the most distinctive fine dining honeymoon experience available at either JOALI property.
