Question 1

How do I get from the airport to Sun Siyam Iru Veli?

Accepted Answer

Sun Siyam Iru Veli is located in South Nilandhe Atoll (Dhaalu Atoll), approximately 40-45 minutes by seaplane from Velana International Airport. The resort is only accessible by seaplane — no domestic flight plus speedboat alternative exists. The seaplane operates from dawn to dusk (approximately 9am to 4pm Male time) — plan international arrivals accordingly. Sun Siyam has a private seaplane lounge at the terminal with cushy seating areas, bathrooms, refreshments and free massages — described by guests as a great experience making the wait comfortable. A Sun Siyam team member meets guests at Male airport and escorts them to the Trans Maldivian Airways check-in desk. Tip: Share international flight details with the property at least 7 days before arrival — this is a specifically stated requirement for optimum seaplane arrangement, and failure to provide information may result in longer waiting times at the airport. If the 7-night minimum for free seaplane is close to your planned stay length, extending by one or two nights brings the largest single cost saving available at the resort.

Question 2

What is the house reef and snorkelling situation?

Accepted Answer

The house reef at Sun Siyam Iru Veli receives mixed but mostly positive feedback. staying for 10 days describes spending so much time snorkelling around the amazing house reef, seeing so much marine life. The Dolphin Ocean View Villa is positioned facing the channel where local dolphins frequent, giving these villas a better chance of spotting dolphins swimming past — opened the bathroom window shade and found a nurse shark swimming below. The sunset side (beach pool villas 243 and 208) is like a dream for the beach but not ideal for snorkelling. The sunrise side has better snorkelling but features black wave breakers in the water that some unattractive. One 17-night those who visited multiple Maldivian islands finds the snorkelling area not really good and small and hopes the reef is recovering. Reef sharks, stingrays, nurse sharks, turtles, eagle rays and colourful fish are all encountered. Dive spots at Dhaalu Atoll are super nice with walls, reefs and caves. Miranda leads the dive centre and Shamoo the dive guide are both praised. Tip: Request the Dolphin Ocean View Villa category if marine life encounters from the villa are a priority — the villa is positioned facing the channel that dolphins frequent and has the stronger reef for viewing. The sunrise side is better for snorkelling than the sunset side. The sunset beach pool villas are better for the beach experience but less productive for reef snorkelling directly from the villa.

Question 3

What are the villa types and what do guests recommend?

Accepted Answer

125 villas all with private pools. Sun Siyam Iru Veli is the only resort in the group where overwater villa accommodation is available to guests of all ages — unlike Iru Fushi where children under 12 cannot stay in overwater villas. The Beach Pool Villas 243 and 208 are notable — 243 on the sunrise side and 208 on the sunset side, both praised for spacious good size. The sunset side beach is like a dream with powder white sand, large and perfect for swimming. An Insta Villa experience is available for guests wanting premium villa moments without booking the full stay. Tip: Request the Dolphin Ocean View Villa for the best chance of dolphin and marine life encounters from the villa, or a sunset side Beach Pool Villa for the best beach and sunset experience — these two orientations serve different priorities. Question 8

What is the best time of year to visit?

Accepted Answer

South Nilandhe Atoll follows the standard Maldives seasonal pattern. The dry northeast monsoon from November to April provides the most reliable sunshine, calmest seas and best visibility. The wet season from May to October brings occasional rain and stronger winds, lower rates and fewer guests. The seaplane operates from approximately 9am to 4pm Male time — international arrivals must fit within these hours for a same-day connection. Dhaalu Atoll dive sites are productive year-round with walls, reefs and caves producing memorable encounters regardless of season.

Question 9

How does Sun Siyam Iru Veli compare to Sun Siyam Vilu Reef?

Accepted Answer

Both Iru Veli (South Nilandhe Atoll, 125 villas, Prive Collection) and Vilu Reef (Dhaalu Atoll, boutique, Prive Collection) are in the Sun Siyam Prive Collection offering intimate barefoot escapes. Iru Veli is newer, has all villas with private pools and is specifically positioned for romance and seclusion, with the overwater spa pavilions with glass floors and the dolphin channel villa orientation. Vilu Reef is smaller and more boutique, has a stronger house reef reputation (vertical drop-off with reef sharks, stingrays, turtles and dolphins encountered), the iconic sandbank with planned new water villas, and is the most affordable of the Sun Siyam five-star options. One key difference: Iru Veli allows overwater accommodation for guests of all ages while Vilu Reef also allows this. Both have seaplane access of approximately 35-45 minutes. Tip: If choosing between Iru Veli and Vilu Reef: Iru Veli wins on the all-private-pool villa format, the overwater spa pavilion glass floor experience, the Shuhaan ambassador service and the dolphin channel villa orientation. Vilu Reef wins on the house reef quality (vertical drop-off, more vibrant marine encounters from the villa), the smaller boutique scale, the iconic sandbank and the slightly more affordable price point.

Accepted Answer

Chef Leo: the most praised culinary individual — cooking custom salt-free meals and teaching private cooking classes. Shuhaan the ambassador: best ambassador experienced across many Maldives visits, 17-night couple describes him as their friend. Night snorkelling excursion: nurse shark in the dark — the undoubted highlight of the stay per. Ocean Spa overwater pavilion with glass floor: blacktip reef shark swam past during massage — an experience that will never be forgotten. Dolphin sunset cruise, guided snorkel safari and local island tour all included in AI plan: three excursions bundled. Castaway sandbank with bento picnic: the most specifically romantic honeymooner memory. Tip: The seaplane daylight restriction means same-day arrival is only possible for guests landing in Male before approximately 3pm. Drinks service can be slow at busy times. The sunrise side black wave breakers are unattractive to some guests. The snorkelling reef is smaller and less vibrant than Vilu Reef per experienced multi-island guests. Spa prices are high even by Maldivian standards.

Question 11

What are the main villa features?

Accepted Answer

The sunset side Beach Pool Villas 243 and 208 are praised for their positions. The sunset side beach is like a dream. The overwater villa is 124 sqm with a gorgeous sundeck and steps leading to the sea. All villas have private pools regardless of category — the most consistently praised villa feature. Question 12

Accepted Answer
