Question 1

How do I get from the airport to Noku Maldives?

Accepted Answer

Noku Maldives (now operating as Vignette Collection by IHG following a brand transition in 2025) is located on Kuda-Funafaru Island in Noonu Atoll. Two transfer options are available. Option 1: a 45-minute seaplane from Velana International Airport — arrive at Male before 15:45 to ensure a same-day connection, as seaplanes do not operate after dark. Option 2: a 40-minute domestic flight to Maafaru Airport followed by a 15-minute speedboat to the resort — this removes the daylight restriction. Seaplanes land on the central beach area, which can be noisy from 06:30 when operations begin. Two to three vessels are sometimes parked 20 metres from this beach, which notes spoils the otherwise beautiful view. A Noku team member meets guests at Male airport and escorts them to the Maldivian Airways lounge before the seaplane. Tip: Take the domestic flight and speedboat option if arriving in Male after 14:00 — the 15:45 seaplane cutoff is firm, and specifically warns to arrive before this time. The speedboat from Maafaru is quick and guests recommend this route again.

Question 2

What is the house reef like and what do guests say about snorkelling?

Accepted Answer

The house reef at Noku runs 50-100 metres offshore and is accessible from the beach for snorkelling. the snorkelling as incredible — second best in the world after the Great Barrier Reef — feeling like she had the whole sparkling reef all to herself. Turtles, reef sharks and rays are consistently encountered. The sunset side of the island is closest to the reef for overwater villa guests, making snorkelling directly from the villa steps most productive on this side. The sunrise side overwater villas sit above more sandy ocean — better for swimming than snorkelling. Guests are given free snorkelling gear and a lesson. One Italian guest notes the reef is only beautiful on one side rather than all sides, and compares it less favourably to Gaafu and Ari Atoll reefs — though they still encountered diverse marine life. Another long-term repeat swimming with turtles, reef sharks and rays as never taking for granted. Tip: Request the sunset side overwater villa if reef snorkelling directly from the villa deck is a priority — sunset water villas are positioned above the ocean with the reef 30 metres away, while sunrise water villas are above shallower sandy sections. This distinction is clearly described by those who have stayed in both orientations.

The sunrise water villas are above more sandy ocean — suited for swimming. The beach villas are more inland surrounded by beautifully landscaped gardens opening to the wide white sandy beach. Two-bedroom villas accommodate families or groups. A floating breakfast in the water villa pool is a wonderful experience not to be missed. Tip: Request the sunset water pool villa and arrange a floating breakfast in the private pool for the first full morning — both the villa orientation (above the reef, sunset views) and the floating breakfast are among the most consistently praised daily experiences at Noku, and early arrangement secures them rather than leaving either to chance.

Question 6

What is the best time of year to visit?

Accepted Answer

Noonu Atoll follows the standard Maldives seasonal pattern. The dry northeast monsoon from November to April provides the most reliable sunshine, calmest seas and best visibility. The wet season from May to October brings occasional rain and stronger winds, lower rates and fewer guests. Arrive at Male before 15:45 for a same-day seaplane connection regardless of season.

Question 7

Is the resort suitable for honeymooners?

Accepted Answer

Accepted Answer

Children of all ages are welcome at Noku. Children under 12 with direct open access to the ocean in water villas — the resort specifically notes this and parents with young children should be aware. Question 10

How does Noku compare to other Noonu Atoll resorts?

Accepted Answer

Noonu Atoll has a small number of resorts. Noku competes with Kuredhivaru (105 villas, V-shaped overwater jetty, transitioning to Mondrian Maldives) in the same atoll. Noku has larger individual villa sizes, a more intimate scale and the specific warmth described around Andri and the team. Kuredhivaru has more rooms, the more photogenic overwater arrangement, the free-up-to-16 children policy and the OAK Lounge wine cellar with 260+ labels. For couples seeking the largest villas and the most personable team, Noku is the stronger choice. Tip: If choosing between Noku and Kuredhivaru: Noku wins on villa size and the warmth of the specific named team (Andri, Nathan, Myra). Kuredhivaru wins on the V-shaped overwater jetty architecture, the wine cellar and the free-up-to-16 family policy. Both are strong Noonu Atoll options at comparable price points.
