Question 1

How do I get from the airport to Dhigali Maldives?

Accepted Answer

Dhigali Maldives is located in Raa Atoll, approximately 45 minutes from Velana International Airport by seaplane. Two transfer options are available. Option 1: a 45-minute seaplane, operating during daylight hours. Option 2: a domestic flight to Dharavandhoo Airport (approximately 30 minutes) followed by a speedboat ride to the resort. The domestic flight option operates until approximately 19:30 departure from Dharavandhoo, with the last speedboat departing the resort around 16:00-17:00. Guests arriving by international flights landing after 23:00 or departing before 08:00 may need to stay overnight at a partner property near Male airport — the resort can arrange this. Flight details must be shared at least 72 hours in advance. Tip: Choose the domestic flight plus speedboat if your international flight arrives in Male after 14:00 — the seaplane daylight window closes too early for reliable same-day connections on late afternoon arrivals.

Question 2

What does the Premium All-Inclusive plan include?

Accepted Answer

Dhigali operates exclusively on a Premium All-Inclusive basis — there is no bed-and-breakfast, half-board or room-only option. The plan covers all meals at the main buffet restaurant (Capers) and at a la carte restaurants, all alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages including minibar, two complimentary excursions per stay (typically a dolphin cruise and one other), complimentary non-motorised water sports, snorkelling equipment and daily activities. Note: room service and certain specialty dining carry additional charges even under the AI plan — confirm the specific inclusions at booking. The minibar is restocked daily. Tip: Confirm at booking which restaurants and services are fully covered versus charged separately under the Premium AI plan — one independent guests noted that most restaurants except the main buffet carry fees even with AI, and knowing this in advance prevents checkout surprises.

Question 3

Is there a house reef and how is the snorkelling?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The house reef at Dhigali is one of the standout features of the resort and one of the strongest in Raa Atoll. The reef begins approximately 20 metres from the beach and drops to 20-25 metres depth, with accessible snorkelling in clear, relatively calm conditions. The water villas are positioned close to the reef — guests in overwater villas can snorkel directly from their villa steps. Marine life includes blacktip reef sharks, turtles, eagle rays, tuna, reef fish and diverse coral formations. Raa Atoll reefs are in generally good condition. Night snorkelling is available as a guided excursion. Complimentary snorkelling equipment is provided. Tip: Request a sunset-facing water villa for the most direct access to the reef and the best evening light — the reef proximity from these villas allows spontaneous snorkelling at any time without walking to a beach entry point.

Question 4

What room types are available?

Accepted Answer

180 villas across eight room types in contemporary minimalist design with flat-roof cube-shaped architecture — a deliberate departure from traditional Maldivian thatch. Rooms use natural textures, earthy tones and splashes of orange and blue in furnishings. Villa categories include Beach Bungalows, Deluxe Beach Bungalows, Beach Pool Villas (private plunge pool), Water Villas (overwater with direct lagoon access), Sunset Water Villas (west-facing), Deluxe Water Villas and the flagship Dhigali Suite with private pool, home theatre, personal butler and a private bar. 41 of the 180 villas have private pools. The resort underwent its first major renovation in 2024, refreshing design and facilities. The Dhigali resort app manages room service, activity bookings and restaurant reservations. Tip: Request a sunset-facing Water Villa or Sunset Water Villa if evening ambience matters — the western orientation provides direct sunset views over the lagoon each evening, which is one of the most consistently praised features across recent assessments.

Question 5

What dining options are available?

Accepted Answer

Eight dining venues are available. Capers is the main all-day buffet restaurant with live cooking stations for breakfast and lunch, and themed dinner buffets that rotate nightly — the omelette station at breakfast and the stir-fry noodle station at lunch are praised. Three a la carte restaurants serve Indian, Asian and other cuisines. A poolside pizza bar operates at lunch. A coffee shop provides non-stop snacks and beverages. Haali Bar is the sunset bar and the most atmospheric venue on the island for evening drinks. A private beach dinner can be arranged. The Dhigali app allows restaurant reservations to be made in advance. Tip: Book dinner tables at a la carte restaurants through the Dhigali app immediately on arrival — popular slots for themed evenings fill quickly, particularly during peak season. The app is faster than calling reception.

Question 6

What activities and excursions are available?

Accepted Answer

Included in the Premium AI plan: two complimentary excursions per stay (typically dolphin cruise and one selection), non-motorised water sports (kayaking, paddleboarding, windsurfing), snorkelling equipment, daily activity programme (yoga, fitness, cultural shows, outdoor cinema under the stars, Boduberu drumming nights, guided jungle walks exploring the island's 80% natural vegetation). Charged: scuba diving (PADI-certified dive centre), jet skiing, parasailing, waterskiing, additional excursions. The island's jungle walk through the preserved interior vegetation is a complimentary and genuinely distinctive activity — 80% of the island's original vegetation was retained during construction. Tip: Take the jungle walk through the island's interior vegetation on the first morning — it takes about 30 minutes, is guided or self-guided, and provides an understanding of the island's ecology that enriches subsequent reef and beach activities.

Question 7

What is the kids offering?

Accepted Answer

A kids club (PLAY) operates for children aged 4 to 11 with supervised activities. Three beachfront pools include a children's pool separate from the adult pools. The island layout and wide range of activities make it well suited for families. The 180-villa scale means there is enough space on the island for families and couples to coexist without compromising each group's experience. Children's buffet options are available at Capers. Sorbet service to sun loungers is noted as a distinctive small touch well received by families. Tip: Book a Beach Pool Villa for families — the private plunge pool and direct beach access provide a self-contained family environment, and the proximity to the main beach and kids club is more convenient than villas on the overwater jetty.

Question 8

How is the spa and wellness offering?

Accepted Answer

The Dhigali Spa is set within the island's tropical garden with a lush, secluded atmosphere. Treatment rooms are surrounded by natural greenery. The spa focuses on indigenous healing traditions and offers body massages, facials, wraps and couples treatments. An outdoor plunge pool is set within the garden daybeds. Morning yoga sessions are included in the AI plan. The spa is positioned as an eco-conscious sanctuary within the island vegetation rather than a purpose-built modern facility. Tip: Book the spa for late morning on a day when the beach and reef activities are planned for the afternoon — the garden spa atmosphere is most tranquil in the late morning before the heat of midday, and combining a spa session with afternoon snorkelling makes for an excellent day structure.

Question 9

What is the island character and atmosphere?

Accepted Answer

Dhigali opened in 2017 and retains 80% of its original lush jungle-like interior vegetation — a deliberately eco-conscious decision. The island has a contemporary feel with colourful design accents including swing chairs, curved chandeliers and bright cushions at restaurants, creating a modern atmosphere distinct from traditional Maldivian thatch-and-timber resorts. The atmosphere is social and active, with a lively daily and evening programme. Three pools and wide beach areas provide space for 180 villas without feeling crowded. The island had its first major renovation in 2024. Note: the beaches are functional rather than extraordinary — shallow lagoons with current protectors prevent strong currents but also constrain traditional long beach walks around the island. Tip: The island's jungle interior is one of the most distinctive features — walking through it at dawn before other guests are active provides a rare tropical forest experience that most Maldives resorts, built on smaller or vegetation-cleared islands, cannot offer.

Question 10

How is the Wi-Fi and connectivity?

Accepted Answer

Free Wi-Fi is included in the Premium AI plan. The Dhigali resort app is the primary in-stay management tool — guests use it for restaurant reservations, activity bookings and room service requests. Raa Atoll's remote location means satellite-based connectivity that is functional for messaging and browsing. The domestic flight plus speedboat alternative to the seaplane also uses Dharavandhoo Airport, which has mobile coverage for the speedboat leg of the journey. Tip: Set up the Dhigali app before arriving and use it for all reservations from arrival day — restaurant bookings made through the app are processed faster than phone requests and are the most reliable way to secure preferred dining times during peak season.

Question 11

What is the best time of year to visit?

Accepted Answer

Raa Atoll follows the standard Maldives seasonal pattern. The dry northeast monsoon from November to April delivers the most reliable sunshine, calmest seas and best reef visibility. The southwest monsoon from May to October brings occasional rain and stronger winds, but also the most reliable period for Hanifaru Bay manta ray aggregations nearby. Dhigali is within range of Hanifaru Bay excursions during May to November. The 2024 renovation has refreshed the resort's infrastructure across all seasons. Tip: A May or June stay offers a balance between the tail of dry season conditions, the start of Hanifaru Bay manta activity, and lower rates than the November to April peak — one of the better-value timing windows for this resort.

Question 12

What is the child policy?

Accepted Answer

Children of all ages are welcome. The PLAY kids club operates for ages 4-11. Three pools including a children's pool are available. The Premium AI plan applies equally to children. Cribs are available on request. Villas accommodate up to 2 adults and 1-2 children depending on category — confirm specific occupancy limits at booking. The 180-villa resort scale means families and couples both have sufficient space and activity options. Tip: Confirm the specific children's occupancy limit for your villa category at booking — standard water villas accommodate 2 adults and 1 child, while certain beach categories accommodate 2 adults and 2 children, and this affects planning for families with two children.

Question 13

Is the resort suitable for honeymooners?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Dhigali is strongly positioned for couples and honeymooners with a 9.6 couple satisfaction score. A dedicated honeymoon package includes a three-course set menu 'Moment of Love' dinner, a couples massage, selected exclusive excursions and in-villa romantic bed and bath decoration. Sunset Water Villas provide the most romantic overwater accommodation with private pools and west-facing evening views. The active evening programme — outdoor cinema, live music at Haali Bar, Boduberu cultural nights — provides varied evening options for couples. Tip: Book the sunset-facing Water Villa and the 'Moment of Love' dinner at the same time as your stay — the dinner requires advance preparation and the best sunset villa positions allocate early, both requiring confirmation before arrival for the best outcome.

Question 14

What are the practical things to know before booking?

Accepted Answer

The Premium AI plan is mandatory — there is no other option. Room service and some specialty dining carry additional charges even within the AI plan. Confirm the full scope of inclusions before booking. The resort app is the primary service channel and should be downloaded before arrival. The beach around the island uses current protectors (small lagoon barriers) which prevent strong currents — these improve swimming safety but limit traditional circumnavigation beach walks. Two electric carts serve as the only motorised transport on the island — during rain or peak periods, wait times for carts have been noted. The resort time is aligned to Maldives Standard Time and does not run ahead. Tip: Download the resort app before the seaplane and spend the 45-minute transfer browsing the activity and restaurant calendar — having a plan for the first two days before landing eliminates the time spent organising at check-in.

Question 15

What are the main pros of staying at Dhigali Maldives?

Accepted Answer

Outstanding house reef: 20 metres from the beach, directly accessible from overwater villa steps, with blacktip reef sharks, turtles and rays in Raa Atoll's well-preserved marine environment. 80% original island vegetation retained: the jungle interior and guided walks are a distinctive eco-feature not available at most Maldives resorts. Modern contemporary design (renovated 2024): flat-roof minimalist villas with colourful accents — a fresh alternative to traditional thatched-roof resorts. 180 villas with a lively social atmosphere: large enough to offer diverse activity and dining options without feeling a small island's limitations. Hanifaru Bay proximity: excursions to the world's largest manta ray gathering site are available May to November. Six dining venues including a la carte options: food variety above the standard for a single-island AI resort. Outdoor cinema and Boduberu evenings: complimentary evening entertainment with genuine cultural content. PADI dive centre: access to Raa Atoll's less-visited dive sites with strong reef conditions. Tip: The mandatory Premium AI plan, combined with the additional charges for room service and some restaurants, means guests should confirm the full cost structure before booking — the headline AI rate is not the total stay cost for those who use room service or specific dining venues frequently.
