Question 1

How do I get from the airport to Conrad Maldives Rangali Island?

Accepted Answer

Conrad Maldives is located in South Ari Atoll. Transfer: 30-minute seaplane from Velana International Airport, operating during daylight hours only (approximately 06:00-15:30). Transfers are mandatory and not included in villa rates. Flight details must be shared at least 72 hours before arrival. A dedicated Conrad Maldives Lounge at counter B6 in the airport arrivals zone offers complimentary Wi-Fi, refreshments, showers and a baby-changing station, open 07:00-17:00.

Question 2

What is the twin-island concept and which island should I stay on?

Accepted Answer

Conrad Maldives spans two naturally formed islands connected by a 500-metre bridge. Rangali Island (the Quiet Zone) is the smaller, adults-only island with overwater villas, the adults-only infinity pool, the Ithaa Undersea Restaurant, the overwater spa, and an intimate atmosphere for couples and honeymooners. Children under 16 are not permitted on Rangali Island except in the Two-Bedroom Rangali Ocean Pavilion with Pool. Rangali-Finolhu Island is the larger, family-friendly main island with beach villas, several restaurants including the buffet (Atoll Market), the family pool, the kids and teens clubs, the water park (Majaa Explorers Hub), the house reef, and the majority of resort facilities. Both islands are accessible to all guests via the bridge and golf carts. Tip: Couples and honeymooners should book the overwater villas on Rangali Island — the adults-only atmosphere, the overwater spa and the proximity to Ithaa create the most romantic experience. Families should book beach villas on Rangali-Finolhu Island near the family pool, kids club and buffet restaurant.

Question 3

What room types are available?

Accepted Answer

Approximately 150 villas across beach and overwater categories on both islands. Rangali-Finolhu (family): Beach Villas with private pools and direct beach access (note that entry-level Beach Villas are not standalone — some neighbours can be heard); Grand Beach Villas (largest on the island with two infinity pools and private beach); Deluxe Water Villas and Grand Water Villas over the lagoon. Rangali (adults): Water Villas (sunset-facing overwater with pool), Rangali Ocean Pavilions with Pool, Two-Bedroom Rangali Ocean Pavilion with Pool (the only overwater villa on the adults island that admits children under 16). The Muraka: the world's first underwater residence, a two-level three-bedroom suite with the master bedroom 16 feet below the ocean surface, a private infinity pool and a private chef — one of the most distinctive accommodations anywhere in the world. Tip: Entry-level Beach Villas on the family island are semi-detached and noise from neighbours has been noted — book a higher-category standalone villa or request a villa position away from shared walls for better privacy.

Question 4

What is the Ithaa Undersea Restaurant?

Accepted Answer

Ithaa is the world's first undersea restaurant, positioned 5 metres below the Indian Ocean surface with a 180-degree curved acrylic dome providing panoramic views of the coral reef and marine life. The restaurant seats a maximum of 14 diners, making it one of the most intimate dining experiences in the world. The menu combines Western and Maldivian cuisine with seasonal dishes. Both lunch and dinner sittings are available. Reservations are essential and can be made by emailing the resort's experiences team. Blacktip reef sharks, turtles and rays are regularly visible from the tables during a meal. The restaurant carries a premium surcharge above standard meal plan inclusions. Tip: Book Ithaa as soon as your stay is confirmed — with only 14 seats and guests travelling from around the world specifically to dine there, peak season slots are taken weeks in advance. Email MLEHI.experiences@ConradHotels.com immediately after booking your stay.

Question 5

What is the Muraka underwater residence?

Accepted Answer

The Muraka is the world's first underwater private residence, a two-level three-bedroom suite where the master bedroom is positioned 16 feet below the ocean surface within a full acrylic dome providing 180-degree underwater views. The upper level contains two additional bedrooms, living spaces, a private infinity pool and a sun deck. The residence includes a private chef, a dedicated butler and staff quarters. It operates as a self-contained sanctuary accessible via a private jetty. A 50% deposit is required at booking and the full rate must be paid at specific intervals. The Muraka is booked separately from standard villa rates and represents one of the most exclusive accommodations available anywhere in the Maldives. Tip: The Muraka requires direct contact with the resort for pricing and availability — rates vary by season and the booking conditions (deposit structure and cancellation terms) differ significantly from standard villa categories.

Question 6

Is there a house reef and how is the snorkelling?

Accepted Answer

Yes. The house reef is located on Rangali-Finolhu Island and is one of the stronger house reefs in South Ari Atoll. Marine life includes blacktip reef sharks, green and hawksbill turtles, eagle rays, spotted eagle rays, manta rays and dense schools of reef fish. The reef is accessible from the beach on the family island. Complimentary snorkelling equipment (mask, fins and a carry bag) is provided to all guests from the water sports centre and can be retained throughout the stay. The resort is a certified PADI Eco Center with active coral restoration. Whale shark excursions are available — South Ari Atoll is one of the few locations where whale sharks are present year-round, not just seasonally. Note that the house reef has experienced bleaching in past El Niño events and recovery is ongoing. Tip: Collect your snorkelling equipment from the water sports centre on the first day and keep it in the provided bag for the duration of the stay — this avoids queuing daily and allows spontaneous reef sessions at any time.

Question 7

What dining options are available across both islands?

Accepted Answer

Twelve restaurants and bars span both islands. Rangali-Finolhu: Atoll Market (main international buffet, open all day), Vilu (beachfront breakfast and Mediterranean a la carte), Koko Grill (Japanese teppanyaki and infinity pool), Ufaa by Jereme Leung (Chinese cuisine, accessible to Diamond members for afternoon tea), Rangali Bar (poolside cocktails), Wine Cellar (over 600 bottles, the only purpose-designed cheese and wine room in the Maldives with black volcanic sand floor). Rangali: Ithaa Undersea Restaurant, Aaraha (sunset champagne bar with caviar and foie gras), Quiet Zone Bar. Both islands: room service 24 hours. The resort also offers private beach dining and sandbank dinners. Food at the specialty restaurants receives strong assessments; the buffet has had some mixed feedback on a la carte variety and seafood freshness. Tip: Book Koko Grill teppanyaki and Vilu a la carte within the first 24 hours of arrival — both are popular with returning guests and fill up fast. The Aaraha sunset champagne bar on Rangali Island has no booking requirement and is worth visiting on every available evening.

Question 8

What activities and excursions are available?

Accepted Answer

Included in all stays: complimentary snorkelling equipment, non-motorised water sports. Charged activities: whale shark snorkelling excursion (South Ari Atoll has year-round whale shark presence but sightings on individual trips are not guaranteed), manta ray excursions, scuba diving (PADI Eco Center with 5-star certification), Bubble Maker diving for children, X-Jetpack, jet ski, wakeboarding, windsurfing, dolphin cruises, yoga classes, tennis, kids water park (Majaa Explorers Hub), Furaavaru Teen Club activities, coral restoration participation, lagoon tours and family photoshoots under certain packages. Tip: If the whale shark excursion is a priority, ask the dive centre team on arrival whether sightings have been occurring — South Ari Atoll whale sharks are theoretically year-round but actual encounter frequency varies by week and weather conditions.

Question 9

What are the children and family facilities?

Accepted Answer

Rangali-Finolhu Island is fully family-friendly. The Majaa Explorers Hub is a children's water park. The Furaavaru Teen Club provides supervised activities for teenagers. A kids pool is separate from the adult pools. infinity pool is on the family island. Beach villas and grand beach villas accommodate families and some have direct beach access with private pools. Children aged 5 and under stay and eat free from the kids menu. Children aged 6-11.99 receive 50% discount on adult rates. The adults-only Rangali Island does not permit children under 16 except in the Two-Bedroom Rangali Ocean Pavilion. Families travelling with adults-only preferences can combine both islands — adults staying on Rangali can visit Rangali-Finolhu for family activities and vice versa. Tip: Families with mixed ages can split accommodation across both islands if budget allows — adults in overwater villas on Rangali for peace and couples, families in beach villas on Rangali-Finolhu. The bridge connecting the two islands makes daily movement between them practical.

Question 10

What is the spa experience like?

Accepted Answer

Two spas operate across the resort. The Spa Retreat on Rangali-Finolhu is 100 metres offshore over the lagoon with glass-floored treatment rooms where fish and coral are visible below during treatments. The Over Water Spa on Rangali Island features four thatched treatment rooms with glass floors and ocean views. Both spas offer indigenous Maldivian rituals alongside standard massage, body treatment and facial menus. Couple treatments, father-son, and mother-daughter spa experiences are available. A serenity deck and whirlpool are available at the overwater spa. Spa packages and single treatments are charged separately from meal plans. Tip: Book the overwater spa on Rangali Island for treatment at the golden hour — the glass floor panels at sunset on the adults-only island produce one of the most atmospheric spa environments available anywhere in the Maldives.

Question 11

What is the best time of year to visit?

Accepted Answer

South Ari Atoll has two seasons. The dry northeast monsoon from November to April provides the best weather, calmest seas and strongest underwater visibility. The southwest monsoon from May to October brings occasional rain and stronger seas but also the conditions that maintain manta ray and whale shark presence in the atoll. Unlike most Maldives atolls where whale sharks are seasonal, South Ari Atoll has resident whale sharks year-round. Manta ray encounters are more reliable from May to November around the outer atoll channels. New Year's Eve carries a mandatory gala supplement and the resort is fully booked months in advance for the Christmas and New Year period. Tip: January and February offer the best dry season conditions with lower occupancy than the December peak — the whale shark and reef diving access is equally good, the weather is the most reliable, and the festive surcharges are absent.

Question 12

Is the resort suitable for honeymooners?

Accepted Answer

Yes. Conrad Maldives Rangali Island is among the most iconic honeymoon destinations in the Maldives globally. The Quiet Zone adults-only island, Ithaa Undersea Restaurant, Aaraha sunset champagne bar, and the overwater spa create a distinctly romantic circuit unavailable at any other single resort. Overwater pool villas on Rangali Island provide complete privacy above the lagoon with sunset views. Special honeymoon inclusions are available — confirm current package details with the resort at booking. Private sandbank dinners, in-villa champagne breakfasts and candlelit beach dinners can be arranged. The Muraka underwater residence represents the ultimate honeymoon experience if budget allows. Tip: For a honeymoon, book a Water Villa on Rangali Island (the adults-only side), reserve Ithaa for one dinner and Aaraha for at least one sunset cocktail session — this three-venue circuit is the most praised combination for couples at Conrad Maldives and can only be experienced here.

Question 13

What are the main pros of staying at Conrad Maldives Rangali Island?

Accepted Answer

World's first undersea restaurant (Ithaa): a dining experience found nowhere else on earth. World's first underwater residence (The Muraka): the most distinctive accommodation in the Maldives by design. Dual-island concept: adult-only Quiet Zone plus family-friendly main island within a single resort — unique flexibility in the Maldives. Year-round whale sharks: South Ari Atoll is the only atoll where whale shark encounters are theoretically possible in all 12 months. PADI Eco Center: one of the most serious dive and conservation credentials in the Maldives. Aaraha sunset champagne bar: lobster, caviar and foie gras at sunset over the Indian Ocean — an unmatched sundowner experience. Wine Cellar: 600+ bottles with volcanic sand floors and sommelier service — the only purpose-designed wine cellar in the Maldives. Family range: water park, teens club, family pools and beach villas alongside adults-only overwater villas — the most comprehensive dual-guest demographic offering in the country. 44-acre natural island setting: no land reclamation, lush mature vegetation and a coral reef that has been developing for decades. Tip: The total cost of a Conrad Maldives stay — villa rate, seaplane transfers, meal plans and excursions — is among the highest in the Maldives. Guests comparing on villa rate alone will underestimate the full cost significantly. Budget comprehensively before booking.
